UF Health, a comprehensive academic health center in Gainesville, Florida, is seeking a dedicated Respiratory Therapist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will provide high-quality, evidence-based respiratory care to a diverse population of adult and pediatric patients in an academic medical environment known for innovative research, advanced clinical practice, and excellence in education. As a Respiratory Therapist at UF Health, you will perform comprehensive respiratory assessments, develop and implement individualized care plans, and deliver a full range of respiratory therapies. Your daily responsibilities will include administering oxygen and aerosolized medications, managing ventilators and noninvasive ventilation devices, performing airway clearance techniques, and obtaining and interpreting arterial blood gases to support accurate diagnoses and treatment decisions. You will collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team to optimize respiratory function, support complex medical and surgical cases, and contribute to high-quality, patient-centered outcomes. You will play an active role in the management of patients requiring advanced respiratory support, including invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation, high-flow oxygen therapy, and specialized treatment protocols for conditions such as COPD, asthma, pneumonia, ARDS, neuromuscular disorders, and postoperative respiratory compromise. You will assist with airway management, including suctioning and support during intubation and extubation, and respond to respiratory-related emergencies, rapid responses, and code situations as a vital member of the resuscitation team. In addition to direct patient care, you will conduct and support diagnostic procedures such as pulmonary function testing and bedside spirometry, ensuring accurate data collection and clear communication of results to providers. You will maintain meticulous documentation in the electronic health record, following departmental policies, regulatory standards, and best practices for safety and quality. You will also help ensure proper use, calibration, and routine maintenance of respiratory therapy equipment in accordance with infection control and safety protocols. Education and collaboration are central to this position. You will provide patients and families with clear, compassionate education on respiratory conditions, treatment plans, inhaler and device use, and strategies for disease management and prevention. Working within UF Health’s academic environment, you may also support the education of students and new team members by sharing expertise, participating in clinical teaching, and modeling best practices in respiratory care. UF Health fosters a collaborative and inclusive culture that values innovation, diversity, and continuous improvement. As part of this environment, you will be encouraged to engage in ongoing professional development, participate in quality improvement initiatives, contribute to evidence-based practice, and explore opportunities to be involved in research and clinical advancement projects. You will work with a supportive leadership team that prioritizes your professional growth and provides access to educational resources, mentorship, and career development pathways. This position typically involves shift-based work that may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays to ensure continuous patient coverage. Care is primarily delivered in a field/on-site clinical setting within the hospital and affiliated care areas, with occasional opportunities for collaboration and learning across different units and specialties. UF Health offers a comprehensive and competitive benefits package that may include medical, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, retirement plan options such as a 401(k), paid time off, and resources that support your well-being and work–life balance. By joining UF Health as a Respiratory Therapist, you will become part of a mission-driven team committed to delivering compassionate, high-quality care while participating in the advancement of respiratory medicine in an academic healthcare environment that supports learning, innovation, and excellence.
