Respiratory Therapist

UF Health is seeking a dedicated Respiratory Therapist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team in our comprehensive academic health center in Gainesville, Florida. In this role, you will deliver high-quality, evidence-based respiratory care to a diverse patient population, including adults, pediatrics, and critically ill patients in both acute and critical care settings. Working within a collaborative, patient-centered environment, you will perform thorough respiratory assessments, develop and implement individualized care plans, and provide a full range of therapeutic interventions to support optimal cardiopulmonary function. As a Respiratory Therapist at UF Health, you will manage and monitor mechanical ventilation, non-invasive ventilation (such as BiPAP and CPAP), and oxygen therapy, ensuring safe and effective application of respiratory support. You will obtain and interpret arterial blood gases, perform pulmonary function testing and bedside spirometry, administer aerosolized medications and bronchodilator therapies, and assist with airway management, including suctioning and support during intubation and extubation procedures. You will actively participate in rapid response and code events, contributing your expertise to stabilize patients in emergency situations. You will document all assessments, treatments, and patient responses accurately in the electronic health record, communicate clearly with physicians, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary team, and contribute to care planning and daily rounds. Education is a key component of the role: you will provide patients and families with instruction on respiratory therapies, inhaler techniques, home oxygen use, and strategies to manage chronic respiratory conditions, reinforcing UF Health’s commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care.
