Job Summary
The position is responsible for performing duties associated with data analysis and generating reports. The responsibilities include cleaning, validating, maintaining, merging, transforming, and analyzing data from multiple, large-scale databases. The Data Analysts work collaboratively on the development of key reproducible workflows that fulfill state and federal requirements for reporting and accountability.
The Data Analyst plays a key service role in the agency by supporting the calculation of school letter grades and providing ADE program areas with information needed for reporting purposes, with particular emphasis placed on utilizing data related to special education students. The Data Analyst also coordinates with program areas and Information Technology staff in order to fulfill programmatic objectives.
Occasional in-state travel is required for this position.
The Arizona Department of Education currently utilizes a hybrid work environment, with up to two days of remote work (contingent upon business needs). Candidates should apply with an ability and willingness to work in-office up to five days per week as business needs necessitate.
Job Duties
Develop code to collect, maintain, analyze, and report data
Act as a liaison between Accountability and Research and Information Technology (IT)
Communicate with Director of Accountability and Data and Deputy Associate Superintendent for Exceptional Student Services on status of projects
Remain current with relevant Federal & State education requirements under ESSA, IDEA & ARS Title 15
Develop code to fulfill state and federal accountability requirements
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)
Knowledge in :
Working knowledge of research and statistical methods; data verification and validation procedures
Strong knowledge of using Python for data analysis
Bachelor’s degree in data/computer science or comparable education/experience (e.g., data science bootcamp)
Skills in :
Data verification and validation procedures
Advanced skill in using Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
Ability :
Analyze data, including interpreting and communicating complex findings
Collect, manage, and organize project data
Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Convey directions and instructions to all levels of personnel and stakeholders, using written and verbal communication in a clear and precise manner
Selective Preference(s)
Preference will be given to applicants with education or experience in related fields such as education; public health; public administration; sociology; psychology, statistical theory; research methodology; or economics
Master’s degree in data or computer science, quantitative analysis, or related work experience
Experience with SAS, MS SQL, Server, Git
Understanding of requirements under IDEA, ESSA, and ARS Title 15
