The Role
We are recruiting for a Product Development Manager to lead the delivery of new product development projects within a fast-paced chilled food manufacturing environment.
This role will play a key part in developing new products from concept through to launch, working cross-functionally with Technical, Production, and Commercial teams to deliver innovative and commercially viable solutions.
You will also support continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring products are scalable, compliant, and aligned to customer and business requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the development of new chilled products from concept to launch
Kitchen development, ingredient sourcing and supplier trials
Translate kitchen concepts into scalable factory processes
Manage development projects through stage‑gate process
Generate and approve product specifications
Conduct organoleptic and shelf‑life trials
Support factory trials including process and packaging validation
Conduct HACCP reviews for new products and processes
Troubleshoot recipe, process and packaging issues
Work closely with Production teams during launches
Maintain awareness of market trends and competitor products
Assess alternative raw materials and packaging options
Support cost optimisation and product improvement initiatives
Liaise with customers and internal stakeholders
Ensure compliance with food legislation and technical standards
Arrange external validation for cooking instructions, nutrition and microbiological testing
Maintain accurate documentation throughout development lifecycle
Support continuous improvement projects across the site
About You
Experience in chilled food product development

Strong understanding of factory scale‑up and product launches
Knowledge of HACCP and food safety systems
Experience running factory trials and shelf‑life testing
Strong project management and organisational skills
Able to work cross‑functionally in a fast‑paced environment
Commercial awareness and customer‑focused mindset
Confident problem solver with hands‑on approach
Strong communication skills
Desirable
Experience working with major retailers
Knowledge of food legislation and labelling requirements
Experience managing multiple NPD projects simultaneously
