A Mirror Systems D&R (Design & Release) Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, validating, and releasing Mirror System parts. The role leads early development and feasibility studies, ensures design efficiency, compliance with regulatory requirements, and oversees manufacturing integration throughout the product life cycle.
Responsibilities
Travel to part manufacturing sites and vehicle manufacturing sites (domestic and international).
Support launch at Ford Assembly Plant(s) (domestic and international).
Maintain compliance with Program cost, weight, quality, performance and timing targets.
Create plans to deliver on time using GPDS.
Adhere to Robustness Engineering Disciplines (Failure Mode Avoidance Tools).
Develop ESOW and EC, participate in sourcing process (SOBA, ED&T review, piece and tooling cost review and CPA).
Participate actively in Technical Design Reviews.
Release parts in BOM tool(s) and WERS, support Change Control Process.
Audit and update BOM with correct part levels and usage for prototype builds and post Job 1.
Stay informed of Worldwide Engineering changes and proceed accordingly.
Define and verify engineering prototype requirements at part level.
Assist in parts implementation/sign‑off at assembly plant and quality issue resolution.
Oversee PDL revisions if impacted.
Support VQRs, VRTs and PVT as required.
Collaborate with STA on technical assistance through Supplier Engagement Process.
Deliver with Ford Performance +.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or electronics engineering or a related field.
3+ years’ experience developing automotive body exterior/interior systems.
1+ year of CAD experience.
Master’s degree is a plus.
Experience with studio interface of Class “A” Parts.
CAD experience with TCE/CATIA/3DX; parametric modeling preferred.
Lean Six Sigma Green or Black belt preferred.
Knowledge of craftsmanship expectations, benchmarking and packaging requirements.
Demonstrated ability to lead teams in resolving complex packaging issues.
Proficient in English; able to negotiate and lead small teams.
Strong technical communication skills (presentations & negotiations).
Effective meeting and time‑management skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Knowledge of exterior systems commodity manufacturing processes.

Compensation Position is a salary grade 5 ($65,100–$109,300), grade 6 ($74,300–$124,500), grade 7 ($86,600–$144,900), or grade 8 ($99,100–$166,200). Final determination based on skills and experience.
