The role is based in Northbrook, IL, Ames, IA, or Avon, NY – with Northbrook being the preferred location. It reports to the Cyber Security OT Manager and manages OT cybersecurity solutions and OT networking/architectures in plants, applying corporate cyber security frameworks to projects for new lines and equipment in the USA and Canada. The role supports Technical Area Managers and Project Engineers to comply with guidelines in OT design, protection, and maintenance.
Automation systems in industrial production environments require up‑to‑date cyber defense to mitigate the risk of massive business interruptions. It is mandatory to provide the highest level of cyber security posture applicable in plants, warehouses, and mills, adopting IT cyber security solutions and best practices with OT‑specific implementation.
In this context, the role provides specialized know‑how for product and packaging innovations, new production lines, factory automation, and extraordinary maintenance by interacting with Project Engineering, Plants, Operations, IT, and other Supply Chain units.
The role is accountable for coping with analysis, implementing solutions, and guaranteeing corporate technical excellence in compliance with specified standards.
Key Accountabilities
Preserve industrial asset availability and protect business continuity: act as a reference point for North America plants on cyber security topics, lead projects, and support compliance with corporate guidelines and industry best practices in OT networking design.
Manage regional cyber security topics and integrate with HQ functions, reporting to the HQ OT Cyber Security Manager about local initiatives, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement.
Design and implement OT cyber security solutions and complex OT networking/systems in plants.
Monitor OT cyber security and cooperate with HQ (IT Plants Security) in managing security events.
Apply corporate cyber security frameworks in new automation projects in plants, adapting to the specific context and needs.
Support plant technical areas to comply with corporate guidelines and industry best practices in OT design, protection, and maintenance.
Perform local OT cyber security assessments and audits.
Locally deal with cyber security/network and OT suppliers with security impacts.
Support the management of the industrial cyber security practice within Supply Chain, in accordance with Barilla cyber security strategy.
Requirements
University degree in Information Technology, Information Security, Electronics/Telecommunication Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related fields.
Minimum 3 years of experience in industrial automation (manufacturing/processing/warehousing), IT/OT networking, IT/OT cyber security, IT/OT system integration, industrial networking, or Industry 4.0.
Self‑empowered managerial approach in daily activities.
Problem‑solving skills.
Proven track record of managing IT/automation projects in an international context.
Results‑driven mindset.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and convey technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
Fluency in English; French is mandatory if based in Canada, otherwise a plus.
Willingness to travel up to 50%: frequent trips to plants and warehouses in the USA (Ames, Avon) and Canada (Montreal).
Benefits As of the date of this posting, the estimated pay range is $82,000‑$95,000 plus eligibility to participate in the annual discretionary bonus plan. The actual pay will be determined by job‑related experience, skills, education, location, and internal equity. The range may be subject to change over time.
