As a member of the Checkout Engineering team, you will be responsible for the development, focused E2E test strategy, test automation frameworks and delivery of the applications that power PayPal’s Checkout user experiences on the web. You will work closely with product, design, and analytics teams to understand what the buyers and merchants using our software desire from us. Implement tasks within the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), receiving structure and oversight from more experienced staff. Follow well-established internal conventions and standard procedures. Understand internal standards & processes and apply them to make technical decisions. Collaborate with peers, manager, and project lead to gain understanding of tasks and review solutions. Contribute to code & design reviews. Deliver complete solutions and features spanning all phases of the software development lifecycle as a fullstack engineer for PayPal Checkout, with focus on E2E Test Engineering. Certify new features and ensure software across various platforms (web, mobile, and services) is of high quality. Design test plans and automate tests to consistently ship with high quality and velocity. Develop industry-leading experiences that bring value to both merchants and buyers. Use technical expertise and business domain understanding to improve scale, reliability, and performance of platforms. Demonstrate end-to-end ownership of features, projects, modules, and services. Develop detailed, comprehensive, and well-structured test plans, test cases, and bug reports. Identify performance bottlenecks via monitoring, logging, and metrics and resolve them. Contribute to clean, scalable, high‑performing, secure, and reliable software services in coding, documentation, automation, etc. Analyze test results, identify defects, and work with development teams to resolve issues. Collaborate with other development teams to ensure seamless integration and deployment of client‑side applications, automating and enhancing build, test, and deployment processes. Communicate effectively with all technical and non‑technical partners and stakeholders. Conduct formal and informal code reviews, providing constructive feedback. Stay up‑to‑date with the latest industry standards, tools, and technologies related to E2E testing and observability practices, and drive their adoption. Participate in program planning, contributing to the product and technology roadmap and driving outcomes. Qualifications
2+ years of professional experience in software development, with a strong emphasis on hands‑on experience with software testing. Solid understanding of the possibilities and limitations of the modern web across all device types and form factors. Strong knowledge of software QA methodologies, tools, and processes. Good knowledge of tools like Postman for API testing. Good knowledge of performance testing and accessibility testing. Experience with Xcode / Android Studio IDE. Strong attention to detail, passion for delivering high‑quality software solutions and compelling customer experiences. Strong problem‑solving skills, ability to work independently or collaboratively to analyze and address complex technical challenges. Excellent communication skills with ability to collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams and non‑technical roles. Experience with modern software development practices, version control systems, and agile methodologies. Minimum: 1+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR equivalent combination of education and experience. Benefits and Compensation
Base pay depends on location: Austin, Texas ($106,000.00 - $157,300.00 Annually); San Jose, California ($116,500.00 - $173,250.00 Annually). Additional compensation may include an annual performance bonus, equity, or other incentive compensation. Balanced hybrid work model: 3 days in the office, 2 days remotely.
