About the Role LJB Inc. is a growing, forward‑thinking engineering firm expanding its impact across the country. We specialize in civil and structural engineering, with expertise in geospatial, safety, and environmental services. Within our Transportation Practice, our team has spent more than five decades designing infrastructure that connects people and supports communities. We are seeking an experienced Roadway Design Engineer to support and grow our Transportation Practice in our Charlotte, NC office. Remote candidates located in North Carolina are welcome.
Key Responsibilities
Perform engineering design tasks for roadway projects from preliminary to final design.
Develop specifications, cost estimates, and prepare final bid packages.
Mentor junior engineers in developing final design plans, including cross sections, traffic control, drainage, and signing and pavement marking plans.
Coordinate design activities and meetings between design staff, subcontractors, and client managers.
Additional Responsibilities
Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost, and scheduling performance.
Identify schedule and cost variance and develop/implement recommendations for corrective action.
Actively participate and service in leadership positions in transportation related organizations such as ASHE, ASCE, DBIA, etc.
Other duties as assigned.
Education & Credentials
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required.
PE preferred. Successful candidates will be able to obtain PE within one year of hire.
Qualifications
4+ years of progressive engineering experience with a broad knowledge of transportation and roadway design.
Experience with DOT design projects required; experience with NCDOT or ODOT is a plus.
Experience with MicroStation, GEPAC, and OpenRoads Designer (ORD) is preferred.
Compensation & Benefits Annual compensation: $90,000–125,000, based on experience, certifications, and regional market standards.
