Responsibilities Essential functions include:
Configure and install Core, Metro and Edge network equipment with inter‑ and intra‑routing sessions.
Contribute to network troubleshooting and resolution for routing and other service‑related issues.
Configure and support BGP peering sessions with external peers and customers.
Provide sales support, including on‑site meetings, phone consultations, and development of scope‑of‑work plans for members.
Recommend new technologies and equipment to management for network service requirements and collaborate with product development on new services.
Participate in network engineering planning and change review teams.
Initiate data entry and create data management tracking processes.
Support network monitoring and resolution activities for ongoing maintenance and implementation.
Establish subject matter expertise in infrastructure platforms and assist with knowledge transfers.
Provide operational and supplemental analysis and reporting as needed for operations, IT, and finance partners.
Engage in professional development activities to continually improve networking and customer service skills.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience with network engineering infrastructure or field service engineering.
Hardware knowledge and strong problem‑solving skills.
Experience with network‑based service monitoring and management tools, focus on troubleshooting and service issue resolution.
Ability to work independently as an individual contributor.
Experience using diagnostic tools.
Ability to support statewide regional network solutions, carrying unified services to educational, research, and medical communities.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Experience with technical tools, database updates, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
Strong customer‑service orientation.
Capacity for teamwork in a highly‑functioning, productive environment.
Availability for overtime and on‑call duties when required.
Desired Qualifications
Knowledge of Layer 2 technologies and cross‑platform switching fabrics.
Valid CCNA/CCNP and/or JNCIA/JNCIS certification.
Knowledge of LAN/WAN systems, TCP/IP, subnetting, routing protocols, multicast, IPv4/IPv6, VOIP, and PBX.
Ability to present solutions to teams and community members.
Optical network knowledge and experience.
Public speaking and technical writing experience.
Experience working with higher education, K–12 institutions, libraries, research institutions, or public‑sector non‑profits.
Modes of Work This full‑time role operates on a hybrid schedule with an 8 am–5 pm, Monday–Friday baseline. Your schedule will be established with your supervisor and may adjust as needed, including occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Travel Travel may be required.
Additional Information Base salary range: $65,000–$70,000, depending on experience and credentials.
