Senior Data Engineer

Dunnes Stores is Ireland’s leading retailer. We operate over 130 stores across Ireland, Northern Ireland and Spain, alongside a growing online business.

We’re hiring a Senior Data Engineer to take ownership of our Azure data platform that supports reporting, analytics and data integration across the business. This is a hands-on role with real ownership. The priority is to keep the platform reliable in production and to build trusted, well-modelled datasets that teams can use with confidence in Power BI.

Core datasets need to refresh reliably each morning for trading and reporting, and when something breaks we fix it properly, not with manual workarounds.

• Own and improve production data pipelines and platform operations, with clear runbooks and refresh SLAs.
  
• Work with business and technical stakeholders to design and deliver data solutions that apply complex business logic at scale.
  
• Build and optimise data models that support consistent, trusted reporting and analytics.
  
• Write and tune SQL queries and procedures for transformation, troubleshooting and performance.
  
• Automate ingestion, cleansing, transformation and loading into warehouse and reporting structures.
  
• Monitor data freshness and quality, investigate issues, and fix them properly so they don’t repeat.
  
• Support analytics and AI use cases by delivering clean, governed data feeds.
  
• Mentor junior engineers and raise standards through code review and practical guidance.
  

• 
  
• 7+ years’ experience in data engineering roles, building and operating BI and analytics data systems.
  
• Strong hands-on experience with the Azure data stack, especially Azure Synapse and Azure Data Factory.
  
• Strong SQL skills, including performance tuning and troubleshooting on large datasets.
  
• Experience delivering data end-to-end, from source through to published datasets for reporting (Power BI or similar).
  
• Comfortable working to deadlines and communicating clearly with technical and business stakeholders.
  
• Microsoft certifications such as DP-203 are a plus.
  
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric is beneficial but not required. xcfaprz
