Customer Service Representative
York County SPCA
Schedule: FridaySunday | 8:00 AM 4:30 PM (24 hours/week)

About the Role

The Customer Service Representative (CSR) is often the first point of contact for visitors at the York County SPCA. This role helps create a welcoming experience for the community while supporting pet owners, adopters, and shelter programs.

The ideal candidate is compassionate, organized, and comfortable working with both people and animals in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Greet visitors and provide helpful guidance about YCSPCA services
• Answer phone calls and respond to general emails
• Educate the public on responsible pet ownership and shelter programs
• Share information about programs such as the pet food pantry, foster program, Safe Pet Program, CARMA, and trap rentals
• Help schedule appointments and manage lobby traffic
• Provide resources and alternatives to pet surrender when possible
• Process retail purchases and donations
• Maintain a clean, organized lobby and restock materials
• Distribute supplies to foster caregivers and pet food pantry clients
• Assist with events, tours, and community outreach
• Collaborate with staff, animal control officers, and humane officers when needed

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or GED
• 2+ years of customer service experience
• 12 years of personal animal handling experience
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to remain calm and professional in emotional situations

Preferred

• Bilingual (English/Spanish)
• Animal shelter or animal-related work experience
• Experience handling complex or sensitive client conversations

Physical Requirements

• Lift up to 40 lbs
• Maintain leash control of dogs up to 125 lbs
• Stand, bend, and move for extended periods
• Handle cats, dogs, and small animals safely
• Work indoors and outdoors

Working Environment

• 24 hours per week including weekends
• Minimum of three animal care holiday shifts per year
• Exposure to animal noise, odors, cleaning chemicals, and potential zoonotic diseases
