Overview
The Quality Assurance Performance Engineer plays a hybrid role, combining software development and testing expertise to ensure the performance, stability, and resiliency of enterprise applications. The engineer designs and builds testing frameworks, tools, stubs, mocks, and performs comprehensive performance and stress tests. The role analyzes results, performs root cause analysis, and delivers actionable recommendations to improve system reliability and scalability. Working across both traditional and modern architectures, patterns, and technology stacks, the engineer partners with development teams to support high‑performing, robust applications and database systems.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain performance test scripts in a prioritized and standardized manner as identified by the QA Manager, Director and Product Line Director.
Coordinate and organize requested performance testing and verification of assigned products to ensure delivery of top-level software products to external clients.
Participate in performance status calls with team members and management.
Support and understand the basic workflow of products assigned for performance testing.
Possess good verbal and written communication skills.
Provide weekly metrics to management.
Adjust timelines/requests based on resource project allocations.
Monitor the verification of product's performance.
Other Duties
Maintain working relationships with all internal departments.
Participate in presentations as Subject Matter Expert (SME).
Conditions of Employment
Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident (authorized to work in the US without visa sponsorship).
Must be able to pass a federal background check.
Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
Security and Privacy Responsibilities Individuals working for DSS or any subsidiary will be subject to security and privacy requirements under HIPAA, FedRAMP, and NIST 800‑53. They must complete FedRAMP training and, for high‑risk roles, advanced training based on access level. Further training is required when possessing access to modify data or configure baselines.
Qualifications Required Skills
Ability and tenacity to take each performance issue as far as possible, suggesting fixes.
1+ year experience with performance testing tools such as NeoLoad, LoadRunner, JMeter, SoapUI, etc.
1+ year experience writing utilities/tools/frameworks in C#, Java, Python, JavaScript, etc.
1+ year experience with SQL/NoSQL to generate data for performance testing.
1+ year experience with application monitoring tools like SiteScope, Splunk, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, New Relic, etc.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Experience with algorithms, data structures, complexity analysis and software design.
Exposure to Unix/Linux operating systems.
Exposure to Azure Cloud Platform and Amazon Web Services.
Proficiency in the Software Development Life Cycle.
Learns new software as needed.
Preferred Skills

Strong organizational, written and communication skills.

Possesses analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Shows aptitude for understanding technical processes.

Education
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or related field.
Combination of education and experience may substitute for a formal degree.
Preferred:
Any additional degree or training specific to the position.
Certifications
Any additional degree or training specific to the position (Preferred).
Years of Experience in a Similar Role
1+ years as a Performance Engineer.
2+ years as a QA Analyst.
Compensation Salary will range from $80,000.00 to $100,000.00 annually, depending on location, education, skills, and experience.
