Senior Network System Engineer

Contract Type: Daily Rate Contract - Long term rolling contract

The Senior Network Engineer will provide advanced technical expertise in the design, implementation, and support of a large‑scale enterprise network environment. The role supports a mission‑critical nationwide estate across WAN, LAN, and Wi‑Fi, with a strong focus on resilience, security, compliance, and future‑ready network architecture.

• Design, implement, and support enterprise WAN, LAN, and Wi‑Fi connectivity across 189 nationwide sites supporting 7,000+ users.
  
• Diagnose and resolve network incidents, outages, and performance issues, including root‑cause analysis and corrective actions.
  
• Produce monthly incident and problem‑management reports and regular performance summaries.
  
• Monitor network health, capacity, and performance using enterprise monitoring tools.
  
• Design and deliver network upgrades, configuration changes, and infrastructure improvements.
  
• Install, test, validate, and document network equipment and services.
  
• Contribute to network architecture standards, reference designs, and patterns.
  
• Implement and manage network security controls, including TACACS+, RADIUS, ACLs, segmentation, and 802.1X.
  
• Deliver and review secure network access controls and compliance configurations.
  
• Support SD‑WAN, SASE, and Zero Trust initiatives from design through operational readiness.
  
• Support NIS2 and ISO 27001 compliance, including documentation, evidence gathering, and audit preparation.
  
• Maintain accurate documentation for DHCP, DNS, IP addressing, topology, and configurations.
  
• Develop, maintain, and improve operational procedures and runbooks.
  
• Deliver automation initiatives to improve efficiency, reliability, and operational consistency.
  
• Perform quarterly network optimisation and performance reviews.
  
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and escalation support to junior engineers.
  
• Deliver internal training, contribute to knowledge‑base articles, and produce troubleshooting guides.
  
• Research emerging networking technologies and provide technical recommendations and reports.
  
• Participate in cross‑functional projects, delivering secure and scalable network solutions.
  
• Provide regular stakeholder updates on network status, risks, and improvement opportunities.

• Very strong, proven experience in supporting large‑scale enterprise networks (10 + years)
  
• Strong expertise across WAN, LAN, Wi‑Fi, and network security technologies.
  
• Experience implementing and supporting SD‑WAN and modern network architectures.
  
• Solid exposure to Zero Trust and SASE concepts.
  
• Experience supporting NIS2 and ISO 27001 compliance requirements.
  
• Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and reporting skills.
