The Senior Manager, Head of Global Merchant Lending Controls & Governance, leads a team responsible for overseeing end-to-end risk management, governance, and control processes for PayPal's SMB Lending Business. This role drives strategy and model governance, risk lifecycle management and issue management, ensuring regulatory compliance while partnering cross‑functionally with business, risk, legal, and external stakeholders.
Essential Responsibilities
- Lead complex projects related to internal controls and risk management.
- Resolve complex problems by applying specialized knowledge in internal controls.
- Develop methods and procedures for new assignments to improve internal control processes.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to implement best practices in internal controls.
- Analyze current business trends to inform internal control strategies and improvements.
Minimum Qualifications
- 8+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree OR any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Responsibilities and Preferred Qualifications
- Lead end‑to‑end risk lifecycle management, including strategy governance, model governance, policy, and controls oversight across lending products.
- Drive governance programs and enhancements to ensure strong execution, consistency, and alignment with regulatory expectations.
- Oversee identification, tracking, and resolution of risk issues and incidents, ensuring timely remediation and escalation.
- Act as a key point of contact for external partners and internal stakeholders on governance, risk, and control matters.
- Partner cross‑functionally with business, risk, compliance, audit, and legal teams to support product initiatives and ensure compliant growth.
- Lead horizontal governance work streams, leading governance forums and committees by preparing materials, facilitating discussions, and driving decision‑making outcomes.
- Lead, coach, and develop a team, setting priorities and ensuring high‑quality delivery across a broad and evolving scope.
What you need to bring
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management, or related field (Master's preferred).
- 10+ years’ experience in governance, risk management, or compliance—preferably within lending or credit products.
- Strong understanding of global regulatory frameworks and industry best practices.
- Proven ability to implement governance frameworks and risk mitigation strategies.
- Expertise in credit model lifecycle governance and oversight.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to influence across functions.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast‑paced, global environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Relevant professional certifications (e.g., CRCM, CAMS, FRM) are advantageous.
