Practice Setting and Clinical Scope
This opportunity is situated in a hospital-based setting, focusing on call coverage without the requirement of outpatient clinic duties. You will be the sole Gastroenterologist on call, providing comprehensive care to hospitalized patients. The clinical scope includes performing and managing procedures such as colonoscopy, biopsy, polypectomy, and upper GI endoscopy. Additionally, managing acute GI bleeds and performing esophageal variceal banding are key components of this role.
Schedule and Assignment Details
The assignment involves 24-hour call coverage with hospital rounding, typically involving 8 hours of procedures and patient consultation. The flexible schedule includes key holiday periods, allowing you to plan your availability effectively. The expected procedural volume includes one to two scopes daily, with similar consult volumes, providing a manageable and rewarding workload.
Support and Work Environment
While the role is primarily solo, you will be supported by an experienced team of RNs and CRNAs in the endoscopy room. This collaborative environment ensures that you have the necessary resources to provide high-quality care. Additionally, the use of the EPIC EMR system streamlines documentation and patient management, allowing you to focus on clinical duties efficiently.
Qualifications
- Board Certification in Gastroenterology is required.
- Eligible for state licensure, with pending licenses accepted at offer; IMLC considered.
- BLS and DEA certifications are mandatory.
- A clean malpractice history is preferred, and a Self-Query NPDB report is required upon presentation.
- ERCP certification is highly preferred, although candidates with strong general GI experience will also be considered.
