Job Summary Under general supervision of the Manager of Applications Engineering, the Data Warehouse Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, documenting, and maintaining the University’s enterprise data warehouse. The role involves working with campus stakeholders and other data consumers to determine requirements, design solutions, and model data. Primary activities include the design, implementation, testing, documentation, and support of data models, programs, data pipelines, and scripts that provide business intelligence capabilities for the campus community. This position also supports methods to integrate data with the campus computing infrastructure using current technologies and DevOps philosophies.
Remote Work Eligibility This position is eligible for remote work pursuant to Cal Poly’s Telecommuting and Remote Work Guidelines and the CSU policy requiring that all work be performed within the State of California.
Department Summary Information Technology Services (ITS) is a fast‑moving team that helps Cal Poly achieve academic excellence by developing and implementing learning, teaching, and administrative solutions that leverage technology aligned with strategic goals. Key Qualifications
Demonstrated experience building required infrastructure for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from various data sources using AWS‑specific and general relational database technologies.
Demonstrated experience designing, building, and optimizing data sets, data pipelines, and architectures.
Demonstrated experience designing, developing, and supporting data warehouse star schema models and applications.
Demonstrated skills using database/query languages to store, manipulate, and retrieve data (e.g., MySQL, Oracle, MSSQL, PostgreSQL, or Aurora).
Demonstrated programming skills using modern languages (e.g., Python).
Education And Experience Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a related field and four years of relevant experience. Additional experience demonstrating the knowledge and abilities above may substitute for required education on a year‑for‑year basis. An advanced degree may substitute for the required experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
Salary And Benefits Anticipated Hiring Range: $98,436 - $119,988 Per Year Classification Range: $87,408 - $127,332 Per Year Compensation is determined by experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure, certifications, and organizational needs.
