About the Job
As a Senior IAM Engineer, you are a senior individual contributor operating in a complex, business-critical environment, recognized for your depth of expertise in Identity and Access Management. You will own and evolve key IAM platforms, serve as a trusted technical resource across security and technology teams, and deliver solutions that directly enable secure access at scale.
This role emphasizes hands-on technical ownership, advanced problem solving, and cross-functional influence, without people management responsibility. What You Will Do
Serve as a senior technical owner for IAM platforms, with primary accountability for design, configuration, integration, and ongoing optimization.
Lead delivery of complex IAM initiatives, including authentication modernization, CIAM use cases, and secure application integrations.
Act as a subject matter expert and advisor to engineering, security, and application teams on identity architecture, access controls, and best practices.
Design and implement scalable authentication and authorization patterns, balancing security, usability, and operational efficiency.
Troubleshoot and resolve high complexity IAM issues, applying creativity and independent judgment to develop durable solutions.
Contribute to the evolution of IAM standards, patterns, and methods; influence platform roadmaps and technical direction.
Partner across organizational boundaries and, when appropriate, serve as technical lead or principal point of contact for IAM-related initiatives.
Support shared operational responsibilities in a clearly defined, sustainable on-call or escalation model.
What You Will Bring
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and typically 7+ years of related experience.
Core IAM Expertise:
Deep hands-on experience with Okta Identity Engine including authentication flows, lifecycle management, and integrations.
Technical Depth:
Strong understanding of SSO, MFA, OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, directory services, and identity lifecycle concepts.
Scripting or automation experience:
Terraform, Python, PowerShell or similar used to improve IAM operations and integrations.
Problem Solving:
Proven ability to resolve complex, non-routine problems using independent judgment within broadly defined standards and policies.
Autonomy & Impact:
Demonstrated success operating with minimal direction, setting technical approaches, and delivering outcomes critical to organizational objectives.
Collaboration:
Ability to influence and partner across teams; experience representing IAM in cross-functional initiatives or project leadership roles.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with CIAM implementations, customer-facing authentication, or large-scale identity integrations.
Exposure to Ping, ForgeRock, or similar IAM platforms in addition to Okta.
Cloud identity experience (AWS, Azure, GCP) and modern zero-trust security patterns.
Relevant security or IAM certifications (e.g., Okta, CISSP, CIAM-focused credentials).
