Overview At the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) the Mobility Section of the Office of Transportation Analytics in the Division of Transportation Development is responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of mobility analysis processes from a multimodal perspective. The section assembles, analyzes, and interprets motorized and non‑motorized traffic data and uses the information to develop long‑range plans, corridor specific plans, assessments of mobility on the transportation system, and to support investment‑level decision‑making. The section also develops and supports travel modeling, which includes maintaining and running the Statewide Travel Model used by CDOT for planning, policy development, and resource allocation purposes.
About the Position The Travel Modeling and Data Analytics Coordinator (Analyst VI) develops and implements long‑range program goals and plans to support and guide CDOT planning, analytic, and information management objectives, policies, and procedures.
Responsibilities
Coordinate and provide technical expertise, support and consultation on travel modeling and traffic analyses for large technical projects, such as the implementation of the statewide travel model and integration of big data sources into the traffic monitoring program.
Provide consultation on travel modeling, multimodal traffic data collection and analysis, and other mobility related activities.
Take the lead in identifying and providing guidance, recommendations, resources and support needed for travel modeling and traffic analysis in the development of plans, policies, and projects.
Develop and review guidelines for the travel modeling unit to ensure they align with statewide transportation planning processes, performance management goals, and CDOT big data integration initiatives.
Develop and implement long‑range program goals to support CDOT planning, analytic, and information management objectives, policies, and procedures.
Manage contractors/contracts and deploy resources to meet changing conditions and priorities.
Manage large and/or complex projects including the development of new travel and traffic models, upgrades to existing models, multimodal data integration, technology implementation and enhancement, and other similar efforts.
Work with project managers to track and provide oversight of the budgets for approved Mobility Section projects within the annual work program. Identify budget or procurement deadline issues before they arise.
Provide technical modeling guidance, with a focus on complex and political projects. Make final determinations on feasibility of using the statewide travel model for various requests.
Conduct pertinent modeling research, recommend model enhancements and data integrations, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to provide guidance on travel model development and maintenance.
Work with stakeholders on corridor or similar studies that require model upgrades, and per agreements developed as part of those studies, implement those upgrades and/or oversee and provide technical guidance to consultants on implementing them.
Other job duties as assigned.
Work Environment
Your schedule will primarily be 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday‑Friday with the opportunity for a flexible schedule.
Potential to work from home 1–3 days a week after training is completed.
Periodic travel required during work hours throughout Metro Denver/Front Range.
Occasional overnight travel 1–3 times a year throughout Colorado.
Minimum Qualifications
At least four (4) years of professional work experience in civil engineering, computer science, data analytics, economics, geographic information systems (GIS), mathematics, planning, and/or statistics or another field closely related to the major duties.
AND at least five (5) years of professional work experience directly with travel demand modeling in acquiring, analyzing, and interpreting data related to transportation planning or a related field. Must have experience as a program or project manager.
OR a combination of relevant education and experience equal to at least nine (9) years.
Education from an accredited U.S. college or university with coursework in civil engineering, computer science, data analytics, economics, geographic information systems (GIS), mathematics, planning, statistics, or another field of study related to the duties of this position will be considered.
Professional work experience directly with travel demand modeling in acquiring, analyzing, and interpreting data related to transportation planning or a related field which included experience as a program or project manager will be considered.

Comprehensive knowledge and experience with travel demand modeling and traffic analysis.
Comprehensive knowledge of theories, principles, and best practices of data analysis, relational database management, and geographic data sets.
Extensive experience in developing and evaluating model input data and analyzing model results.
Fluency in ERIS GIS software, transportation modeling tools (TransCAD, Vissum, CUBE, EMME/3), relational database management software (SQL and/or Oracle), MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, Gmail, Google applications, SAP, and the ability to quickly learn other software systems.
Knowledge and experience with traffic‑related research and crash data systems applications.
Knowledge of transportation planning and project development activities.
Ability to work under tight deadlines and be adaptable to changing assignments.
Ability to take initiative to solve problems in an innovative manner.
Ability to work with a variety of stakeholders with sensitivity to their needs, priorities, promises made and commitments.
Effective interpersonal and relationship‑building skills.
Strong time and project management skills, including prioritization and multi‑tasking ability.
