Minimum qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Telecommunications and 3 years of experience in a Network Engineer‑related occupation.
Alternatively, Master’s degree in the same fields and 1 year of experience in a Network Engineer‑related occupation.
Required 1 year of experience in:
Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) for routing between autonomous systems.
Interior Gateway Protocols (IGP), including Intermediate System to Intermediate System (IS‑IS).
Network troubleshooting using established procedures and tools.
Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) for high‑performance data carrying.
Writing readable and structured code in Python, C++, or Go following engineering best practices.

The US base salary range for this full‑time position is $126,000 - $181,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
Position reports to the Google Austin, TX office and may allow for a hybrid schedule per Google policy.

Responsibilities
Conduct quantifiable analysis of network data and capacity forecast models to enhance scalability, efficiency, and user experience.
Evaluate network system inefficiencies and flaws to design and implement improved software, designs, and processes.
Develop software to improve the performance, security, transparency, and manageability of network systems.
Identify, diagnose, and resolve complex software, hardware, and other network system problems with minimal guidance.
Scale systems sustainably by creating tools and automation that improve system reliability and operational velocity. Participate in a rotating on‑call schedule to support multi‑vendor, SDN‑based wired and wireless networks.
