Key Responsibilities
Work with internal teams to understand user requirements.
Design data center substations and collaborate with other disciplines to create construction documents.
Create designs that meet quality and budget requirements.
Specify electrical equipment with regional vendors and manufacturers.
Define site utility requirements with local utilities.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal requirements and building codes.
Review and approve equipment submittals.
Provide technical support for information requests during construction phases.
Work with commissioning teams to test and validate electrical systems.
Manage concurrent projects across multiple regions.
Attend site visits for review and provide engineering evaluations, audits, and startup support.
Basic Qualifications
4+ years of engineering experience in mission‑critical facilities (data centers, power generation, oil and gas).
4+ years of commissioning experience.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment and facilities.
Preferred Qualifications
4+ years of substation design experience supporting data center or mission‑critical facilities.
Professional Engineering license.
Familiarity with medium‑voltage distribution system design.
Excellent understanding of the National Electrical Code.
In‑depth understanding of critical data center electrical equipment.
Leadership and problem‑solving skills.
Motivated, dependable individual with excellent communication and attention to detail.
Ability to research, develop, and deploy new design concepts through construction.
Creative, innovative solutions that reduce costs without compromising quality, reliability, or maintainability.
Knowledge of building codes and regulations (Life Safety, IBC, NFPA, NEC, OSHA).
Meets or exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role.
Location & Travel This position is based in Herndon, VA; Austin, TX; Seattle, WA; or Columbus, OH. Travel to data centers, team off‑sites, and vendor factory visits is required, with domestic travel up to 25% of the time and some international travel.
Benefits Base salary ranges vary by location: $116,800 – $160,000 USD annually (Herndon, VA and Columbus, OH) and $116,800 – $160,000 USD annually (Austin, TX). Amazon offers sign‑on payments, restricted stock units (RSUs), comprehensive health insurance, 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
