The Mobile Phlebotomist works under the general supervision of the Phlebotomy Supervisor to provide clinical pre‑analytical laboratory services to clients/patients in a mobile setting. The role involves completing assigned routes safely and timely while following all policies and procedures. Responsibilities
Drive the vehicle to client facilities, typically nursing homes, as directed by the company dispatcher. Unload the phlebotomy tray and take it to the patient’s bedside to collect samples ordered by a physician. Accurately identify the patient before collecting specimen(s). Collect, label, process, and deliver specimens obtained from patients. Reload equipment and all necessary specimens to the vehicle for prompt delivery. Regularly communicate with the dispatcher to report status and location; create required records as instructed. Strictly adhere to Universal Precautions in controlling blood‑borne pathogens and infectious disease exposures. Maintain required certifications, health requirements, and operational requirements. Keep the work area clean; follow all safety precautions at all times. Report any unsafe conditions, complaints, or problems encountered. Monitor supplies inventory and report low‑stock or out‑of‑stock situations; identify and segregate any expired supplies. Punctually report to work, properly groomed, and wear the proper identification when visiting a facility. Accurately maintain time records of hours worked and deliver them to the company as directed. Manage your assigned shift to include meal breaks. Follow all specimen preservation, patient preparation, and specimen management processes and procedures as written, without personal deviation. Use only approved current documents; make changes to records only per approved instructions as needed. Be available for on‑call evenings and weekends and for irregular unscheduled overtime based on company workload or absenteeism. Required Skills
Excellent communication and interaction skills with the pediatric and geriatric communities. Treat customers and patients with respect, dignity, and discretion; acknowledge residents’ rights and patients’ right to refuse. Demonstrate regular attendance. Hold a current, valid state phlebotomy license (if required). Hold a current, valid state driver’s license; have car insurance; maintain a good driving record; possess a vehicle in good working condition suitable for daily driving. Proficient in venipuncture and skin puncture using both vacutainer and syringe techniques. Knowledge of laboratory operations. Maintain sterile, sanitary conditions to prevent contamination. Physical Demands
Walks, stands, handles or feels, talks, and hears frequently. Occasionally sits, reaches with hands and arms, stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls. May lift or move up to 35 pounds on occasion. Requires close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Work Environment
Standard medical laboratory environment with potential health hazards. Administers, technical, and professional staff must safely operate in accordance with applicable health and safety policies and procedures, including consistent and proper use of personal protective equipment.
