A leading engineering and infrastructure group with a strong presence across Ireland and Europe is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to take ownership of commercial and contractual management across a growing portfolio of complex data centre and critical infrastructure projects.
This is a senior‑level appointment, effectively stepping into a Commercial Management function, with clear progression to Commercial Director level as the business continues its rapid expansion. The group has experienced significant growth in recent years.
You will inherit a structured commercial team including QS and estimating support across Ireland and international locations.
Role Overview
As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will lead the commercial function across multiple projects, ensuring robust financial control, contractual compliance, and optimal commercial performance. You will act as a key advisor to senior leadership, supporting strategic decision‑making across budgeting, forecasting, procurement, and risk management.
You will oversee commercial governance from tender stage through to final account, ensuring projects are delivered profitably and in line with organisational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Lead commercial management across all assigned projects, ensuring profitability and contractual compliance
Prepare, manage, and monitor project budgets in coordination with delivery teams
Provide regular commercial reporting, insights, and recommendations to senior leadership
Negotiate and manage contract terms with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors
Oversee cost planning, valuations, forecasting, and financial reporting across project lifecycles
Ensure strict compliance with contractual obligations and commercial governance standards
Develop and implement commercial strategies to improve margins and drive revenue growth
Support procurement strategy, tender evaluation, and bid submissions
Manage project cash flow, including invoicing, valuations, and payment cycles
Identify and manage commercial and contractual risks and opportunities
Conduct cost analysis, value engineering, and identify cost‑saving opportunities
Review subcontractor agreements and ensure alignment with project objectives
Monitor project expenditure, reporting variances and implementing cost controls
Conduct site visits to verify progress and commercial accuracy
Work closely with project managers, engineers, and site teams to ensure financial alignment
Provide commercial input to operational planning and execution strategies
Report performance metrics and financial updates to senior stakeholders and board level
Requirements
Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, Construction Management, or related discipline
Proven experience in a Senior QS or Commercial Management role within construction, engineering, or infrastructure
Strong understanding of contract law and commercial governance frameworks
Demonstrated experience in budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and financial reporting
Strong negotiation skills with subcontractor and client‑facing experience
Commercially astute with a strategic mindset and strong analytical ability
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills at senior level
Ability to manage multiple projects across different jurisdictions
Highly organised, detail‑focused, and comfortable in a fast‑paced environment
Willingness to travel across Europe on an occasional basis
Full driving licence and eligibility to work across Europe
