NURSE PRACTITIONER/PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT

Salary: Negotiable

Job Type: Full-time

Hours: Monday-Thursday 9-5pm and Friday 9-4pm

Location: 2 Offices

Position Summary

We are looking for a full-time Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for our Gastroenterology Practice. Experience preferred, but not necessary for the right candidate who has an interest in Gastroenterology and willingness to work hard . New graduates are encouraged to apply. 

This position requires providing medical care including medical screening examinations and evaluations. As a gastroenterology (GI) nurse practitioner, you diagnose and treat patients with digestive system problems. Hire will be expected to consult patients which includes taking an initial history and conducting physical examinations, follow up with patients after procedures (colonoscopy, endoscopy, fibroscan, etc), dispense medication, order any necessary other medical examinations or referrals. Position requires a current State of California Family Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant License, BLS certification.

Qualifications:

  1. Clinical Certification: a full, current and unrestricted State of California Family Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant License.

  2. Current BLS Certification

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of professional care theories, principles, practices, disease process

  • Knowledge of a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, the desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use

  • Provide a full range of nurse practitioner services in accordance with privileges granted by the Medical Director/Gastroenterologist (example: supervise and provide general screening and medical care and examinations of patients for routine, acute and chronic conditions involving all organ systems) 

  • Diagnose, treat, and counsel patients as indicated. Treat patients with common acute and chronic conditions, illnesses, within accepted protocols, Nurse Practice Acts, and/or in collaboration with a physician

  • Request consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health resources as needed and order diagnostic tests as applicable. Prescribe and dispense medications. 

  • Coordinates patient care through a continuum and facilitates the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to care, quality and cost effectiveness

  • Ensures compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment facility

  • Provides care within ethical and legal boundaries

  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and the organization

  • Serves and participates in committees, functions and other meetings as directed

  • Ensures a safe work environment, employee safe work habits and patient safety IAW regulatory agencies, infection control policies, and process improvement initiatives
