The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) is seeking a Business Intelligence Analyst.
Primary duties are to develop data visualizations, extracts and transforms to assist in strategic and operational decision‐making by administration, faculty and staff in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, utilizing institutional and localized data sources in a sustainable fashion. Create documentation for end‑users, technical support, and data stewards. Apply best practices in data visualization and data design. Analyze data used in solutions and verify its accuracy and correctness.
This position may be eligible for hybrid work within Iowa after onboarding is complete and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of employment. Work arrangements will be reviewed annually and must comply with the remote‑work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with internal customers/stakeholders to define and document data, analytics and modeling requirements.
Provide first‑tier end‑user support and training for data solutions and platforms.
Demonstrate basic knowledge of data visualization design and best practices.
Assist in design, implementation, and provisioning of data solutions via modeling, schema development, ETL and data quality processes.
Document data sources, transformations, and models for visualization and data movement solutions.
Collaborate with other subject‑matter/data experts and stewards in the college and institution to advance knowledge.
Problem‑solve, investigate, and explain data discrepancies.
Assist in the preparation, cleansing, and verification of data.
Provide intuitive data solutions by simplifying the accessibility of complex analytics within solution tools.
Education Required
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Qualifications
Academic or professional experience designing, developing, and maintaining data‑driven solutions in a secure, professional environment.
Basic skills with relational database design theory and SQL query languages; demonstrated experience with a common relational database platform.
Ability to communicate effectively and accurately, both orally and in writing, with technical and non‑technical staff.
Desired Qualifications
Demonstrable knowledge of object‑oriented programming and design principles.
Experience with MVC programming frameworks such as CodeIgniter, .NET MVC, Angular, or React.
Familiarity with software development best practices such as source code control, issue tracking, testing using Jira, Git, or similar technologies.
Familiarity with agile software development methodology.
