Associate, Trade Surveillance Model Development Location: Jersey City, NJ (Hybrid – 1x/Week Onsite) Compensation: $97,000 – $156,000 + Discretionary Bonus Role Type: Full-Time / Permanent
The Opportunity Are you a quantitative professional with a strong grasp of financial products and a passion for data science? Join a global financial leader’s Compliance Product & Data (CPAD) team. We are looking for motivated individuals to support the Full Model Development Lifecycle (MDLC) of our Trade Surveillance systems. This is a high‑impact role where you will help build and validate the models that protect the integrity of global financial markets.
Note We are open to Junior-level candidates who possess a strong foundational understanding of financial models and the drive to grow within a premier surveillance team.
The Role This is an active, "hands‑on" development role. You won't just be running reports; you will participate in the design, triage, and validation of models used to detect market manipulation. You will help translate trading behaviors across Bonds, Equities, and Derivatives into sophisticated computational solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Model Lifecycle Support:
Assist in the end‑to‑end development, testing, and performance monitoring of market and communication surveillance models.
Validation & Documentation:
Help drive the Model Validation process by drafting Model Development Documents (MDD) that outline performance thresholds, limitations, and overlays.
Triage & Data Analysis:
Perform data analysis and experimental design to address business requirements and investigate model alerts (triage).
Cloud Engineering:
Work within Azure (ADF & Databricks) to support computational Compliance objectives.
Governance:
Maintain code repositories (Git) and technical documentation for data flows and computation architecture.
What You Bring
Financial IQ:
You must understand the "guts" of financial products. You should be able to explain what a Bond is, how fixed‑income products work, and how they are traded in the market.
MDLC Interest:
A strong desire to work across the full model lifecycle—from initial triage to formal validation.
Technical Foundations:
Proficiency in Python and SQL is required. Experience with (or a strong willingness to learn) Azure Databricks and ADF is highly preferred.
Quantitative Background:
Knowledge of statistical concepts, including sampling methods, probability distributions, and experimental design.
Education:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative field (Finance, Statistics, Computer Science, or Math).
Why Join Us? This is a rare opportunity for a junior‑to‑mid‑level professional to gain elite experience in Trade Surveillance. You will work directly with senior quants and developers, gaining exposure to cutting‑edge ML/NLP algorithms and cloud‑native financial engineering.
