The Database/Data Communications Section is hiring! The DET is open to hiring at the Senior level or Specialist level. Regardless of level, this position requires strong communication skills, excellent customer service, and the ability to work with cross‑functional teams.
Position Summary This position is responsible for providing technical expertise and support for database and data communications systems software products (e.g., internal DB/DC monitoring tools, Oracle Enterprise database on Linux operating systems, database backup/recovery software, etc.). Primary activities include database system operations, system maintenance tasks, database system configuration management, problem resolution, and implementing infrastructure and database security industry practices. The position will also perform duties normally done by other technicians within the section when required due to workload or scheduling conflicts. It provides customer and technical support for build activities and daily operations of the Oracle database hosting service, participates in projects from genesis through implementation and post‑deployment support, and collaborates closely with technical staff and DET management. The incumbent will frequently work on projects that require a strong commitment to customer service, good communication skills, and the ability to work as part of a team. The position requires a mindset of life‑long learning to evolve with new technology and deliver continuous improvement and security enhancements in database services.
Responsibilities Provide technical support and guidance for database and data communications systems, including monitoring, backup, recovery, and security. Execute day‑to‑day operations, maintenance, and configuration of Oracle database environments on Linux. Resolve technical issues and implement best practices across the organization. Act as a subject‑matter expert on database design and business issues. Contribute to projects that enhance service delivery and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
Installation and/or administration of Oracle Database Systems; capture, read, and analyze log files, dumps, and traces; manage database security, including user access controls, privileges, role‑based grants, auditing, and authentication methods.
Salary Information Starting salary for the IS Enterprise Technical Services Senior (07‑34) is between $30.15‑$46.78 hourly. Starting salary for the IS Enterprise Technical Services Specialist (07‑33) is between $35.19‑$53.97 hourly. A twelve‑month probationary period may be required. Level and salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience. Current State employees will be compensated in accordance with the current State Compensation Plan.

Job Details Due to the nature of the position, DOA will conduct fingerprinting and background checks on applicants prior to selection. DOA does not sponsor work visas and is not an eligible OPT (Optional Practical Training) employer for F‑1 international students. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required employment eligibility form upon hire.
All employees are expected to live and work in Wisconsin. Interviews will be conducted onsite in Madison, WI. Certain positions within this Department may allow remote/work from home flexibility for a portion of their work schedule, depending on the needs of the position and the work unit.
