We are looking for an Antenna Design Engineer to join our hardware team in San Diego or San Francisco. This person will be working with a multidisciplinary team developing our future product development efforts.
What You’ll Do
Design, simulate, and optimize antennas for low-power wearable devices, including multi-band solutions.
Build prototypes quickly and effectively to evaluate design concepts
Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical, electrical, and firmware teams to integrate antennas into highly constrained form factors.
Perform electromagnetic simulations (e.g., HFSS, CST, FEKO) and validate designs with bench and OTA measurements.
Conduct over-the-air (OTA) performance testing and troubleshooting in collaboration with test engineering teams. Drive root cause analysis and design iteration for antenna performance issues in prototypes and production units.
Work with suppliers, CM partners, and manufacturing teams to ensure antenna performance is maintained throughout production.
Document design processes, results, and performance metrics for internal knowledge sharing and regulatory compliance.
Stay up to date on emerging materials, methods, and technologies in miniature antenna design.
Travel to support prototype builds in both Asia, Europe, and North America: ~15-20% of time yearly
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
7+ years experience in antenna design, preferably for compact consumer electronics, wearables or IoT devices.
Proficiency with electromagnetic simulation tools such as Ansys HFSS, CST Microwave Studio, or FEKO. Experience with antenna measurement tools (e.g., vector network analyzers, OTA chambers).
Strong understanding of RF fundamentals, matching networks, and PCB layout considerations for antennas.
Proven ability to collaborate across disciplines and communicate technical concepts clearly.
Knowledge of Industry Standards and Regulatory Requirements: Be familiar with industry standards and regulations related to wireless communication, such as those from the FCC, ETSI, or ITU.
Preferred
Experience designing antennas for wearable or ultra-compact devices.
Familiarity with Bluetooth, BLE, NFC, UWB, GPS, and multi-band antenna solutions.
Knowledge of SAR compliance and RF regulatory requirements. Experience working with overseas manufacturing partners.
