Position Summary McCarthy Concrete Inc. is seeking an experienced Mobile Crane Operator to support ongoing operations on the Norwalk Walk Bridge Project. This role is critical to safely and efficiently executing heavy lifting operations, including placement of concrete materials, structural components, and construction equipment in a high-profile infrastructure environment. The ideal candidate will have strong experience operating hydraulic moblile cranes/Telehandle, working in tight urban and rail-adjacent conditions, and maintaining strict adherence to safety and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Operate mobile cranes (hydraulic and/or lattice boom) to lift, move, and position materials and equipment * Perform daily inspections of crane equipment, rigging, and safety systems * Execute lifts in accordance with lift plans, load charts, and site-specific constraints * Coordinate closely with riggers, signal persons, and site supervision * Maintain compliance with OSHA, site safety plans, and project-specific requirements * Assist in crane setup, breakdown, and mobilization/demobilization * Monitor ground conditions, weather, and site hazards affecting crane operations * Maintain accurate logs of crane operations and inspections * Support Construction crews when not operating equipment.
Qualifications
* Valid Connecticut Hoisting Equipment Operator License (Required) * NCCCO Certification or equivalent nationally accredited certification (Required) * Minimum 3-5 years of experience operating mobile cranes on construction or infrastructure projects * Strong understanding of load charts, rigging practices, and lift planning * Experience working on bridge, rail, or heavy civil projects preferred * Ability to work in high-traffic, confined, and complex jobsite environments.
Physical Requirements
* Capable of climbing in and out of crane cabs and assisting with setup * Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as needed * Comfortable working in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions * Able to physicaly suport construction crews with standard manual labor.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience working on DOT or federally funded projects * Signalperson and/or rigging certification * Familiarity with railroad or marine construction environments
