Overview This role is a blend of a Senior Java Engineer and a Sales Engineer. We’re looking for candidates with a strong background in Java engineering who are interested in transitioning into a more client-façing role. As an Enterprise Technical Sales Engineer at Send, you’ll act as the technical bridge between our product and prospective clients in the commercial insurance market. You’ll work closely with the sales team, building and maintaining demo environments, developing tailored client demonstrations, and helping qualify complex technical requirements.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain backend services in Java.
Build scalable, high-performance microservices using Spring Boot and modern frameworks.
Work with relational databases, particularly MySQL.
Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality features.
Sales Engineering Support
Build and maintain demo environments and configurations that reflect real-world insurer workflows.
Develop and configure client-specific demos tailored to individual sales opportunities.
Partner with the sales team to creatively and strategically address technical requirements during dynamic sales cycles.
Qualify and prioritise technical requirements alongside the sales team, including architecture and integration needs, and identify potential product enhancements.
Support solution design by working with internal teams to shape scalable technical approaches.
Provide deep technical insight to help the sales team clearly communicate the value of our platform.
Support sales enablement by addressing technical objections and equipping the team with the right tools and knowledge.
Contribute to RFPs, proposals, and other technical sales collateral.
Feed insights and learnings from the sales process into the product roadmap.
Skills & Experience Needed
Expertise in Spring Boot, REST APIs, JPA, and Hibernate.
Solid understanding of microservices architecture and best practices.
Experience with relational databases (MySQL preferred).
Familiarity with software development best practices, including testing and code quality.
Experience in pre-sales, sales engineering, or technical consulting roles.
Experience in the insurance and/or financial services industry is desirable.
Previous experience building or managing demo environments.
Proven ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, client-facing presentations and demos.
Hands‑on experience qualifying technical requirements and supporting solution design during sales cycles.
Strong understanding of SaaS platforms, integration patterns, and cloud technologies.
It’s a Plus If You Have
Exposure to Angular, Python, DynamoDB, Snowflake, and Terraform.
Experience contributing to RFPs, proposals, and other technical sales collateral.
Familiarity with sales enablement processes and tools.
Communication & Problem Solving
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong problem-solving abilities in fast‑paced, dynamic environments.
Ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
Working Style
Comfortable working independently while collaborating cross-functionally with teams in both the US and UK.
