Securian Asset Management (SAM) is seeking an experienced Corporate Bond Trader to support the continued growth and performance of our public corporate bond portfolios, including both investment grade and high‑yield credit strategies. This role is responsible for executing trades, sourcing market opportunities, and partnering closely with portfolio managers and research analysts to achieve the investment objectives of SAM's investment portfolios.
The Corporate Bond Trader will play a critical role on the trading desk by providing market intelligence, maintaining strong dealer relationships, and supporting the new‑issue and secondary‑market processes. This individual will also contribute to technology‑driven improvements across trading workflows and help identify new tools and platforms that enhance execution efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Execute corporate bond trades across investment grade and high‑yield markets through dealer negotiation and electronic trading platforms.
Maintain strong relationships with broker‑dealers and market participants to support effective trade execution and information flow.
Manage the corporate bond new‑issue process, ensuring timely communication and coordination with portfolio managers and credit analysts.
Monitor secondary market offerings and identify attractive opportunities for portfolio positioning.
Provide market color, liquidity insights, and trading ideas to the investment team.
Partner closely with portfolio managers and credit analysts to implement investment strategies and manage portfolio exposures.
Support investment committees and internal initiatives by providing trading insights and market updates.
Represent the trading desk in collaborative initiatives across Securian Asset Management and the broader Securian Financial organization.
Technology, Data & Process Improvement
Utilize tools such as Bloomberg and other platforms to support trade execution, analytics, and market monitoring.
Evaluate emerging electronic trading platforms and industry developments to enhance execution capabilities.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across trading workflows, including leveraging automation, data, and AI‑driven insights where appropriate.
Qualifications
3+ years of experience in corporate bond trading or fixed income markets, preferably within an institutional asset management environment.
Demonstrated experience trading investment grade and/or high‑yield corporate bonds.
Strong understanding of financial markets, credit risk, and portfolio management concepts.
Proven ability to negotiate trades and build effective dealer relationships.
Experience using Bloomberg, Excel, and electronic trading platforms to support trade execution and analysis.
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to communicate market insights clearly to investment professionals.
Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, or related fields.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in liability‑driven investment (LDI) or total return fixed‑income portfolios.
Familiarity with multiple e‑trading platforms and evolving electronic market structure.
Experience with data visualization or analytics tools (e.g., Tableau) or large dataset analysis.
Progress toward or completion of CFA, MBA, or other advanced investment‑related credentials.
Demonstrated curiosity and a passion for improving trading processes through technology and data‑driven approaches.
Internal Title & Work Arrangements The internal Securian Asset Management job title for this position is Asset Management Consultant. Associates enjoy the flexibility to work virtually or in our offices. If you are within a commutable distance (90 minutes), you will join us three days each week in our offices to collaborate and build relationships.
Compensation The estimated base pay range for this job is: $92,400.00 – $203,200.00. Pay may vary depending on job‑related factors and individual experience, skills, knowledge, etc. More information on base pay and incentive pay (if applicable) can be discussed with a member of the Securian Financial Talent Acquisition team.
