Urgent care Advanced Practitioners, including Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants, provide clinical services treating acute conditions such as infections, minor injuries, and flu-like symptoms. They assess patients, order diagnostic tests, make diagnoses, prescribe medications, and educate patients while coordinating care and referring serious cases to emergency services. The role requires clinical experience, relevant certifications, strong communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced urgent care setting.
Urgent care Advanced Practitioners (Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner) provide a wide variety of clinical services including treatment of acute episodic conditions such as sore throats, colds, flu-like symptoms, cuts, sprains and minor infections. Functioning in lieu of or alongside of a physician, it is essential for an urgent care Advanced Practitioner to have excellent assessment skills in order to recognize more serious conditions and direct the patient to the emergency room for advanced care when necessary.
Bachelor's Degree required for Physician Assistants
Master's Degree required for Nurse Practitioners
Work Experience
~Adult and pediatric practice experience strongly preferred
Active state medical licensure
Work experience in an Urgent Care or Emergency Room setting
Applicable office procedures including but not limited to suturing, splinting, etc.
Knowledge and experience with Electronic Medical Records
Strong communication and customer service skills
Taking patients’ medical histories
Ordering and/or carrying out therapy with patients
Giving vaccinations, and referring patients to additional care
