Founded in 1940, the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority (NRHA) provides low-income families in Norfolk, Virginia with safe and well-maintained housing. It also plans and administers large-scale residential redevelopment programs within Norfolk.

NRHA is an award-winning public housing authority that has been effective in obtaining private investment partners to fund new neighborhoods; improving low-income public housing; planning and building mixed-income communities; and offering programs that support residents receiving rental assistance on their path to self-sufficiency. Business Intelligence Analyst.

Summary

The Business Intelligence Analyst is a critical leadership role for the Norfolk Redevelopment Housing Authority (NRHA). This role will play a vital role in transforming data into actionable insights to support decision-making across the agency. The successful candidate will have strong analytical skills, a proven track record in data analysis, and experience with Business Intelligence tools.

Essential Functions

• Gather, analyze, and interpret data from various sources.

• Develop and maintain data dashboards and reports.

• Identify trends and patterns in data.

• Develop data visualizations to communicate findings effectively.

• Provide data-driven insights to support strategic decision-making.

• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business needs and requirements.

• Ensure data quality and accuracy.

• Maintain current knowledge of Business Intelligence tools and techniques.

Education, Experience, and Licenses

• Bachelor's degree in business Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics or a related field.

• 3+ years of experience in a Business Intelligence role.

• Proficient in data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).

• Strong SQL and database management skills.

• Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge:

In-depth understanding of data analysis techniques, including statistical analysis, trend analysis, and predictive modeling.

Knowledge of data governance principles, including data quality, data privacy, and accuracy standards.

Familiarity with industry-specific data analysis practices, particularly in the housing or public sector, if applicable.

Expertise in Business Intelligence (BI) tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms for creating data visualizations and reports.

Knowledge of database management systems (e.g., SQL Server, MySQL) and ability to manage and query databases for meaningful insights.

Familiarity with data integration techniques and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes for consolidating data from different sources.

Strong knowledge of best practices for designing and developing effective data visualizations that communicate complex information clearly and accurately.

Knowledge of interactive reporting techniques to allow stakeholders to explore data on their own.

Understanding of statistical methodologies for analyzing datasets, including regression analysis, correlation, hypothesis testing, and other quantitative methods.

Knowledge of the development and maintenance of comprehensive reports, including identifying key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics that align with business goals.

Skills:

Exceptional ability to analyze large datasets, identify trends, patterns, and anomalies, and extract actionable insights.

Strong problem-solving skills to identify underlying business issues through data analysis and to propose data-driven solutions.

Strong command of SQL for querying, extracting, and analyzing data from relational databases.

Ability to write complex queries and perform data manipulation to prepare datasets for analysis and reporting.

Proficient in using data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) to design and maintain dashboards and reports that effectively communicate findings.

Ability to create customized visual reports and presentations for various stakeholder groups, adapting complexity and detail as needed.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills to present complex data insights in an understandable and actionable way to non-technical stakeholders.

Ability to create clear, concise presentations and reports that summarize data findings and recommendations.

Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal teams, leadership, and external stakeholders to understand their business needs and deliver tailored BI solutions.

High attention to detail to ensure data accuracy, quality, and consistency in all reports and visualizations.

Ability to spot discrepancies in data and ensure the integrity of datasets used for analysis.

Abilities:

Ability to convert raw data into strategic insights that support decision-making at all levels of the organization. ****

Strong ability to evaluate data to identify key business trends and present recommendations that influence business strategy and operations.

Ability to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders to gather business requirements, understand their needs, and ensure that BI solutions align with organizational goals.

Capable of facilitating collaboration between departments to ensure that data reporting and analysis support overall business objectives.

Ability to stay current with the latest BI tools, technologies, and industry trends.

Demonstrated ability to adapt to new software and platforms, and to apply emerging technologies to enhance data analysis and reporting capabilities.

Ability to manage multiple BI projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.

Strong organizational skills to track project progress and ensure timely delivery of BI solutions and reports.

Ability to quickly identify data issues or business problems and develop strategies for solving them through data analysis.

Skilled in using data to identify areas for improvement and propose actionable solutions for operational efficiencies or strategic initiatives.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, see, or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
