POSITION PURPOSE/SUMMARY:
The Systems/Network Administrator I serves as a foundational member of the technology department, focused on execution, service delivery, and "Keep the Lights On" (KTLO) operations. This role is responsible for the day-to-day administration, maintenance, and end-user support of existing systems, network components, and IT infrastructure. Unlike higher-tier technical roles, this position emphasizes adherence to established standards, operational continuity, and routine problem resolution rather than designing new architectures or addressing complex architectural failures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To maintain and support systems by:
Performing routine maintenance, patching, monitoring, and basic troubleshooting of Windows and Linux server environments. Administering user accounts, permissions, security groups, for end-users in assigned systems. Assisting with the configuration and troubleshooting of network infrastructure components, including switches, wireless access points, and routers, in accordance with established standards. Deploying, configuring, and maintaining server hardware, storage systems, and backup solutions. Developing and maintaining technical documentation, procedures, and end-user reference materials.
To provide Tier II technical support by:
Monitoring and triaging incoming service requests through the agency ticketing system. Diagnosing and resolving routine hardware, software, connectivity, and account-related issues in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Escalating complex or unresolved issues to the appropriate staff when resolution cannot be achieved within established guidelines. Documenting troubleshooting steps, resolutions, and relevant system information to ensure continuity of service and effective handoff when escalation is required.
To support employee access and asset management by:
Completing assigned onboarding and offboarding tasks, including account provisioning, system configuration, and access changes or removal. Maintaining accurate inventory records for technology equipment and software assets, including tracking assignment, status, and lifecycle information.
To maintain service continuity and operational readiness by:
Serving as designated backup support for Desktop Technician roles during absences. Preparing for planned leave by identifying a backup staff member, updating all active tickets, and forwarding phone and voicemail access as appropriate. Managing workload and schedule effectiveness in order to perform duties as assigned.
To maintain professional communication and service standards by:
Responding in a professional and timely manner. Monitoring the ticket queue daily and updating all active tickets. Representing the agency professionally in meetings with external districts and partners.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Education
Education: Associate's degree in a computer-related field or equivalent professional experience. Bilingual proficiency and/or multicultural experience preferred. Experience
Experience: 2-4 years of experience in a technical support or junior administrator role. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
Administration and support of Windows and Linux systems. User account and access management in Active Directory and Google Workspace. Networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, wireless, and basic switch operations. Desktop operating systems, standard business applications, and common hardware components. IT service management practices, ticketing systems (e.g., Freshservice), and technical documentation standards. Basic cybersecurity, data privacy, backup, and recovery principles. Inventory and asset management practices. Virtualization fundamentals. Skills to:
Troubleshooting and resolving routine hardware, software, connectivity, and access issues. Prioritizing, managing, and documenting multiple service requests effectively. Analyzing problems, identifying root causes, and implementing solutions. Communicating technical information clearly to technical and non-technical users. Using Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and other standard productivity tools. Operating ticketing systems to track, manage, and escalate service requests. Abilities to:
Work independently while functioning as part of a tiered technical support team. Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Accurately record time spent on tasks and maintain clear documentation of work performed. Provide professional, solution-focused customer service. Learn and apply new technologies, systems, and procedures. Follow established standards, SOPs, and escalation protocols. Exercise sound judgment in prioritizing work and escalating issues when needed. Adapt to changing priorities, operational needs, and technology environments. Maintain confidentiality, professional conduct, and appearance consistent with agency expectations. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The position requires minimal physical exertion. The specialist is normally standing, walking or sitting as required. Periodically the manager may be required to do some light lifting of materials/supplies up to 30 lbs when transitioning from site to site.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS:
Duties are performed in an office environment, training environment, and in schools.
This position may require travel between multiple classrooms on one campus.
The staff member may encounter inclement weather during the work day.
