Be the ultimate collaborator.
UX at idfive is the glue that holds website design projects together for our mission-based clients. This position requires a unique blend of research, strategic thinking, and design expertise as you help build websites and engaging experiences. You'll often start with high-level strategies, such as audience research and content analysis, and distill findings into blue-sky recommendations. You'll then work closely with cross-functional teams-including design, development, content strategy, and marketing-to create intuitive, accessible, and engaging user experiences that align with our client's goals.
Work Location
idfive is located in Baltimore, MD in the Mount Vernon neighborhood. We love Charm City, and it loves us back. Most of our team lives in the city and surrounding areas, but fivers can be found nationwide.
We meet periodically throughout the year for agency-wide events, but beyond that, where you work is up to you, so long as it's during our operating hours of 9-5 EST. If you're within driving distance of the office, you may be asked to work from the office occasionally for creative brainstorms or in-person client meetings.
Before you get here you should have...
Have a passion for UX and at least 2-3 years of experience in a full-time UX or similar role.
A strong portfolio of your UX strategies, wireframes, prototypes, and IA solutions.
Desire to help mission-based clients do good in the world.
Experience with information architecture work, including taxonomies, search, and navigation design.
A deep understanding of usability principles, accessibility guidelines (WCAG), and user-centered design methodologies.
Experience in high-fidelity wireframing, content planning, and designing complex user interactions.
A basic understanding of quantitative and qualitative research methods.
Experience in translating research findings into tactical recommendations on the web.
Proficiency in XD or Figma. We use Figma at idfive.
Ability to guide internal and client teams through your work, including thought process and rationale.
Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Bonus points if you also...
Have worked on large-scale, enterprise websites with many stakeholders and complex content needs.
Are familiar with higher education, nonprofit, or healthcare sectors.
Like to dig into analytics and SEO data
Love storytelling and finding ways to bring emotion and heart to your work.
Can find creative ways to solicit feedback from end-users.
Have a keen design eye, but know when to step back and pass things off to the design team.
On your first project, you might be expected to...
Create a homepage wireframe for a large-scale university, nonprofit or similar mission-based organization, building upon strategic direction set in the Discovery phase.
Develop an information architecture that meets user needs, content requirements, and adheres to usability and IA best practices.
Produce wireframes for supplemental pages and create a consistent, seamless experience.
Partner with the strategy, creative, development, and accounts teams to be sure your work meets project goals.
Support your recommendations using quantitative and qualitative research data.
Validate and refine your recommendations against user and/or stakeholder feedback.
Analyze post-launch user behavior and engagement data to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
After six months to a year, you'll be expected to...
Own all user experience and information architecture deliverables for large, enterprise clients, including wireframes, sitemaps, personas, prototypes, tree tests, and usability studies.
Lead brainstorming sessions and workshops to develop innovative user experience solutions.
Participate in up-front research activities, including conducting interviews, designing surveys, analyzing traffic data, and performing heuristic reviews.
You should have a basic understanding of modern content management systems, including Drupal and WordPress, to inform your wireframes and information architectures.
Own a project's functional requirements with support from the development team.
Collaborate with other creative team members to deliver amazing work for our clients.
Balance multiple complex projects at a time, within varying stages of development.
Help shape and grow the UX practice at idfive.
