This Senior Principal Software Engineer position will support a major missile program as the Software Lead Engineer. The Software Lead Engineer will communicate and work closely with other IPTLs, Product Owners, Scrum Masters, their team, and the customer in support of a missile system development activity.

The Software Lead Engineer is responsible for leading the team that plans and executes the program’s software engineering activities through all stages of requirements, development, and testing for software builds. Activities include but not limited to providing status information to functional management and the chief engineer, is responsible for planning and overall execution of the software budget, cost, schedule, measures, technical direction, and investigation of problems on the program. Directorate level activities may include Estimate at Completion Reviews (EACs), proposal reviews, staffing projections, and monthly metrics tracking. In addition, the Software Lead Engineer will be the primary Software Engineering interface to the customer community, program management, and other stakeholders. This candidate must have the ability to manage time and resources to meet assigned deadlines. The candidate must be able to run a team working multiple configurations of hardware and manage multiple development branches.

This position is within the Effectors Center of the Software organization, and is an onsite role located in Tucson, AZ.

What You Will Do

Develop and maintain the Software development roadmap and strategy for a Technology Maturation Risk-Reduction (TMRR) program.

Estimate software development efforts using agile methods and aligns it with program plans.

Apply expertise in software development for embedded multi-processor systems.

Provide innovative and creative software solutions to complex technical problems.

Follow and/or recommend changes to established processes and procedures.

Create new procedures in new program areas.

Review software products for soundness of technical judgment and adequacy.

Produce documentation related to software artifacts across the lifecycle including design documents, test procedures, how-to guides, and internal presentations.

Demonstrate ability to effectively work and communicate with all levels of program, customers, functional, and technical leads (IPTs, chief engineers, architects, Directorate).

Use Microsoft Office suite of resources to produce documentation to facilitate program leadership and customer discussions and decisions.

Utilize agile software development methods, automation, and continuous integration.

Owns the configuration management of all digital products on the program.

Provides requirements to Hardware In-the-loop Software team.

Expected to travel 10% of the time.

Qualifications You Must Have

Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or other STEM related field and 10 years of relevant experience.

Experience across the Agile software development lifecycle in three or more of the following: C++ data structures and algorithms or C, C++, Python, and/or Object-Oriented Program Languages; systems software design; FQT test planning & execution; integration of real-time software/firmware/hardware; software test equipment maintenance; software requirements definition, experience on a program with security constraints.

Experience including at least two of the following: Embedded Software, Embedded Software Security, Embedded Operating Systems (Linux, RTOS, VxWorks), Software Architecture Design and Implementation.

Active and transferable Secret U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer

Hands-on experience with Raytheon’s Software Development Framework (Missile Kit, vTEn, genSoft, genSim, FUEL).

Highly motivated self-starter, able to work independently, multi-task and follow-through.

Demonstrated interpersonal & teamwork skills.

Experience with Agile Software development methods (e.g., Scrum, continuous integration) including experience using Git/ADS.

Experience using scripting languages (e.g., Perl, Python).

Experience adapting Board Support Packages.

Experience with System Integrity software design and development.

Control Account Manager certification and experience as an acting CAM.

The salary range for this role is 124,000 USD - 250,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
