Job Summary The Data Scientist will support the growing analytical needs of the company as data collection efforts expand and use cases are identified. Primary duties include enhancing and optimizing current analytical techniques through business‑unit collaboration, developing and deploying advanced analytical methods and associated software to extract additional value from company‑held data (including data at rest and streaming), and broadening the company’s analytical knowledge base. Analysis produced will be shared within Entergy to support initiatives that impact generation assets, load resources, customer view, products, and services.
Responsibilities
Develop, manage, and deploy analytical solutions/tools that enable business units to unlock additional value from company‑held data.
Champion Entergy’s analytics efforts internally and externally, promoting collaboration and communication through business‑unit‑driven use cases and building the Entergy brand in the analytics space.
Represent Entergy on industry forums (e.g., UAI, EPRI, EEI) and assist with developing and maintaining an internal POV on analytical capabilities, considering build or buy options.
Serve as a thought‑leader on analytic issues and guide citizen data scientists across Entergy business units.
Minimum Requirements
Education:
B.S./B.A. in economics, mathematics, statistics, computer science, finance, engineering, or another analytical field.
Experience:
5–6+ years in a data analytics role using mathematics and/or machine learning techniques to solve real‑world problems.
Preferred Qualifications
3+ years of programming or forecasting experience (machine learning, clustering, regression, etc.) with tools such as SAS, SPSS, R, Python, Matlab, Java, etc.
1+ year of programming/forecasting experience in the electric and/or gas utility sector.
Demonstrated ability to coach and train others on developing analytical insights.
Awareness of vendor‑provided analytical solutions in the utility sector.
Preferred: Master’s or Ph.D. in an analytical field.
Required Skills & Abilities
Strong background in a data‑driven environment that includes building and deploying analytical solutions (machine learning, regression, etc.) that produce actionable insights.
Excellent communication skills at both technical and strategic levels.
Ability to explain complex topics in a simple, easy‑to‑understand manner.
Proven teamwork and collaboration skills.
Strong writing and presentation capabilities.
Certificates and Licenses
Preferred: Programming/coding certificates in analytical software such as SAS, R, Python, SPSS, Matlab, Java, etc.
Travel Up to 25% travel expected.
