This Position reports to: Product Engineering & Quality Manager.
In this role, you will play a pivotal role in the design and development of Medium Voltage (MV) drive cabinets within the Motion High Power (System Drives) business, located in New Berlin, Wisconsin. You will collaborate closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure that designs are optimized for production efficiency, quality, and compliance, supporting both innovation and local manufacturing success. The work model for the role is: Hybrid; New Berlin, WI. This role contributes to the Motion High Power Division.
Responsibilities
Create 3D CAD models and detailed engineering drawings for inverter cabinets, and mechanical parts.
Develop sheet metal, plastic, and machined components with a focus on manufacturability and cost efficiency.
Ensure designs meet structural, thermal, and environmental requirements.
Coordinate with suppliers and manufacturing teams to validate feasibility and optimize production processes.
Support cross-functional teams during prototype builds and product testing.
Perform tolerance analysis, clearance distance and thermal simulations for drives components.
Participate in design reviews, failure mode analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Maintain BOMs, design specifications, and revision control in PLM systems.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
Minimum 5 years of experience with Medium Voltage equipment or similar industry.
Strong solid modeling experience required.
Experience with sheet metal parts, insulation material and related components.
Familiarity with UL and ANSI standards for cabinets and clearance requirements for electrical components.
Thermal analysis and cooling test experience is a plus.
Proficiency in ProE/Creo and PTC Windchill within a product development environment preferred.
Demonstrated agility and ability to learn quickly, adapt to change, and drive business success.
Travel up to 10% required.
Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
