Overview Network Engineer – Multiple Levels Available Company: Cayuse Civil Services, LLC Location: Austin, TX – Hybrid (3 days remote, Mon & Fri Onsite) Salary: Based on experience and position level
Responsibilities The Network Engineer is responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining network infrastructure, providing guidance on network‑related matters, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating with other teams to resolve issues to ensure the network operates smoothly and securely. They perform highly complex network engineering work and are responsible for the design, implementation, management, and operational support of Network Infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee the monitoring and maintenance of network security in collaboration with clients.
Assess existing network configurations and make recommendations based on product specifications.
Set up and install network devices like routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and more.
Perform regular maintenance and upgrades for the network and systems, including installing updates, patches, and security fixes.
Monitor network performance to make sure everything runs smoothly and reliably.
Track system usage and plan for future network requirements.
Help solve network problems, especially more complex issues.
Work with the security team to choose and set up the right security tools and policies.
Communicate with vendors and the other IT team to fix issues and get support.
Research new technologies to automate processes, improve efficiencies, and heighten security.
Provide support to employees and clients, including troubleshooting and resolving network issues.
Plan for future network requirements and track system usage.
Provide project planning, implementation, and successful execution of projects including technical network design, and develop detailed network documentation.

Qualifications Qualifications – Here’s What You Need:
Level 1: 1–3 years of experience in the field or a related area. Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre‑established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment.
Level 2: 4–7 years of experience in the field or a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Level 3: 8 or more years of experience, relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, independently performs a variety of complicated tasks; a wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
All Levels:
Good understanding of how networks work.
Knowledge of network models like OSI or TCP/IP.
Experience using multiple tools to check and fix network issues.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.
Minimum Skills
Able to understand problems and develop solutions.
Expertise in keeping networks safe and secure.
Experience with advanced service provider and WAN router configurations utilizing logical systems.
Experience with network management and monitoring systems and diagnostic tools commonly used within the service provider networks.
Knowledge of fiber optic wiring, transceiver troubleshooting, and operating network test equipment.
Experience with Next‑Generation Firewalls, Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS) and Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS).
Experience working with routers and switches.
Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate in a clear, professional, and articulate manner.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills with high‑level attention to detail.
Able to meet deadlines and work well in a fast‑paced environment.
Strong multitasking skills with the ability to manage multiple design streams across concurrent work effort.
Must be self‑motivated and able to work well independently as well as on a multi‑functional team.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
Desired Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
Hands‑on experience with virtualization technologies.
Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and other applications used to create network diagrams.
Leadership or project management experience.
Experience with cloud‑based infrastructure environments.

Working Conditions
Professional office environment, with the ability to work on‑site in the main office.
Must reside in the Austin area.
Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties for extended periods of time.
Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed to meet the demands of this position.
Must be able to establish a productive and professional workspace.
Must be able to sit for long periods of time looking at a computer screen.
May be asked to work a flexible schedule which may include holidays.
May be asked to travel for business or professional development purposes.
May be asked to work hours outside of normal business hours.
Travel costs, per diem, and other related expenses must be pre‑approved in compliance with State of Texas travel guidelines.
