The Systems Administrator - III (MQ Administrator) is responsible for managing, configuring, and maintaining messaging infrastructure using IBM MQ.
This role ensures reliable message delivery, system performance, and security across enterprise environments.
The position involves administration, monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization of MQ systems while supporting cross-platform environments and collaborating with development and operations teams.
Key Responsibilities
Administer and configure IBM MQ (WebSphere MQ) environments, including queue managers and messaging components Create, configure, and manage queue managers, queues, and channels (sender, receiver, server, and client) Implement clustering and distributed queuing to support scalable messaging systems Manage message persistence, delivery guarantees, dead letter queues, and poison message handling Monitor system performance, queue depth, and channel status to ensure optimal operations Perform log analysis, troubleshooting, and issue resolution for MQ-related incidents Support capacity planning and performance tuning initiatives Manage and support MQ environments across Unix/Linux (AIX, Red Hat, SUSE) and Windows Server platforms Develop and maintain scripts using Bash, KSH, or PowerShell for automation and operational efficiency Manage file systems, permissions, and system-level configurations Implement and maintain networking and security configurations, including TCP/IP, SSL/TLS certificates, and firewall rules Support authentication and authorization mechanisms, including LDAP integration Ensure secure message transmission through encryption and security protocols Collaborate with development and infrastructure teams to support middleware and application integrations Support incident management processes, including on-call responsibilities Maintain documentation and follow standard operational procedures Required Qualifications
5-10 years of experience in IBM MQ administration Strong expertise in IBM MQ (WebSphere MQ) administration and configuration Experience with queue manager setup, channel configuration, clustering, and distributed queuing Strong knowledge of Unix/Linux and Windows Server administration Proficiency in scripting using Bash, KSH, or PowerShell Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking and security concepts including SSL/TLS and firewall configurations Experience with performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and capacity planning Familiarity with middleware platforms and related technologies Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively in team environments Preferred Qualifications
Experience with message brokers such as IBM Integration Bus or Apache Kafka Familiarity with application servers such as WebSphere, JBoss, or Tomcat Exposure to cloud-based messaging services such as AWS MQ or Azure Service Bus Experience with database concepts related to message persistence Certifications
