The Information Technology Division (ITD) provides comprehensive technology services and strategic project collaboration to multiple divisions and bureaus within the Department of Public Safety (DPS). ITD serves as a critical enabler of DPS's mission by delivering secure, reliable, and innovative technology solutions that support public safety operations statewide.
DPS has one of the most complex networks in the State of New Mexico. It consists of over 50 physical offices including the DPS headquarters, the NM Law Enforcement Academy, three forensic labs, three 911 communications / dispatch centers, 12 NMSP district offices, and a significant number of permanent and transitory sub-stations in key locations throughout the state including the Governor's Mansion. In addition to these physical locations, the network consists of 650 NMSP patrol units, the NMSP helicopter and several mobile command centers. The network is accessed 24 hours per day, 7 days per week with no tolerance for downtime by DPS civilian staff, NMSP, and all federal, state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies (LEAs) to receive mission-critical CJIS and to access many other systems.
DPS ITD provides the time, resources and encouragement for its staff to participate in ongoing training and mentorship. We continually look for employees who want to develop their skills, grow as individuals, be reliable teammates and enjoy challenging work assignments. The significant number of our employees who have been promoted into higher positions is evidence of our success. ITD enjoys a close working relationship with the NMSP, law enforcement agencies across New Mexico and our federal partners such as the FBI. ITD and its employees are valued by DPS Leadership as an essential part of the public safety services in New Mexico. As a DPS ITD employee, you will quickly become integrated into the law enforcement community statewide. The DPS leadership recognizes and celebrates the value of information technology. As such, our ITD team takes great pride in knowing that they are an integral part of protecting those in the law enforcement community and the citizens of New Mexico.
Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.
ITD delivers services five bureaus: the Application Development and Support Bureau, the Service Management Bureau, the Network and Server Bureau, the Cybersecurity and Compliance Bureau, and the Project Management Office. Through these bureaus, ITD ensures the availability, integrity, and security of information systems while supporting operational efficiency and modernization initiatives. The Division's approach aligns with the State of New Mexico's objective to provide accurate, critical, and real-time information in support of agencies dedicated to protecting the people of New Mexico.
The DPS ITD has 60 FTE positions including the CIO, Deputy CIO, 5 bureau chiefs, 7 managers / supervisors and 46-line level employees. These numbers have grown significantly over the past 5 years. The growth of ITD is directly attributable to the trust of the DPS Executive Leadership and their understanding of the essential nature of the services offered by ITD to the entire New Mexico law enforcement community.
The Network/Server Support bureau exists to deliver reliable, secure, and resilient network and server infrastructure services that enable ITD bureaus and the Department of Public Safety's divisions to operate efficiently and effectively. This function is responsible for providing enterprise-grade network connectivity, data communications, and comprehensive server, storage, database, and technology device services across the organization.
If you are ready for a challenging and rewarding role in a supportive environment, where your work directly contributes to public safety across New Mexico, we encourage you to apply.
Why does the job exist?
The New Mexico Department of Public Safety (NM DPS), Information Technology Division (ITD), is seeking a mission-driven IT Systems Administrator to support the New Mexico State Police (NMSP) and NM DPS operations statewide.
