The System Offices is one of several system members within the Texas A&M University System representing one of the largest systems of higher education in the nation, with a network of 12 universities, a comprehensive health science center, nine state agencies, and the RELLIS Campus. Job Description Summary:
This position provides application and database administration support for various Texas A&M University System applications, including the enterprise data warehouse. It involves working closely with Enterprise Application teams to provision and integrate complex systems into the application infrastructure. The role also includes server administration responsibilities in collaboration with other System Office IT groups, ensuring the stability and performance of enterprise environments composed of multiple servers, virtual machines, and diverse software products.
Responsibilities:
Administration, Operations, and Support:
Govern enterprise database servers across the Texas A&M University System.
Install, configure, and harden new database servers.
Upgrade and migrate servers to newer OS and database software versions.
Administer access controls and security; ensure compliance with TAMUS policies and industry best practices.
Conduct periodic assessments and continuous monitoring for compliance and performance.
Monitor database performance and implement improvements via hardware, configuration, indexing, or query optimization.
Deploy diagnostic and security monitoring tools.
Create and implement SQL database maintenance plans.
Manage server backup, recovery, business continuity, and disaster recovery strategies.
Generate periodic compliance and operational integrity reports for management.
Develop and enforce standards for database security and application access.
Application Development and Architecture:
Maintain, configure, and document application architecture.
Develop packages, jobs, and scripts for maintenance and development support.
Automate deployment processes, builds, and testing to support development teams.
Provide incident support for database management systems.
Assist technical and business process teams with enterprise system support.
Consult with Enterprise Application teams on database design, installation, and testing for enterprise DBMS systems.
Standards and Governance:
Establish documentation standards for database administration and security procedures.
Define processes for documenting database issues, recovery actions, and repairs.
Set standards for planning new databases or upgrades.
Collaborate with leadership to define enterprise-level standards for new database technologies and integration testing.
System Administration and Infrastructure Support:
Act as liaison between Enterprise Applications and Infrastructure teams to finalize infrastructure needs (e.g., server/VM requests, firewall ports, service accounts).
Install, configure, and harden system/infrastructure software per best practices.
Ensure compliance with TAMUS policies and organizational security requirements.
Coordinate and perform system/infrastructure software patching.
Provide proactive incident support and tier 2/3 support for enterprise systems.
Establish documentation standards for system issues, recovery, and upgrades.
Work with leadership to define standards for new technology deployments and integration testing.
Monitor system performance and implement diagnostic and security tools.
Conduct assessments and generate compliance and performance reports.
Leadership and Collaboration:
Collaborate with technical and business process teams.
Architect system designs from specifications or vendor-provided designs.
Mentor, train, and support the development of other employees.
Develop specifications based on stakeholder input.
Consult with internal teams, vendors, and manufacturers to resolve complex technical issues.
Serve as a senior technical advisor for enterprise standards and direction.
Professional Development:
Research emerging technologies and attend seminars or courses to enhance technical and professional skills.

Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Four years of application administration and/or SQL development experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:- Demonstrated knowledge of application administration, design, and SQL development.
Working knowledge of underlying Windows server OS, network routing, and 1/0 systems to support SQL databases.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Qualifications:
Business Objects, Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), Data lakes, PowerBI, Team Foundation
