Responsibilities * Assist with design, develop, and implement machine learning algorithms for unique use cases. * Evaluate accuracy and quality of the designed models as well as data sources. * Work on the latest models and changes in the technology. * Communicate results and implications to colleagues and business partners. * Collaborate effectively with team members and cross-functional partners. Education Required * Pursuing a Bachelors degree in machine learning, data science, computer science, electrical engineering, engineering, statistics, systems engineering, mathematical sciences, applied mathematics, or Physics. * Active enrolled student during the months of May through August 2026. Skills Required * 1+ years of experience with python required. * Hands-on and theoretical knowledge of various Machine Learning algorithms and tools (for both classification and regression problems (e.g. Random Forests, XGBoost SVM) Skills Preferred: * Pursuing advanced degree, e.g., Ph.D. or M.S. in machine learning, data science, computer science, electrical engineering, engineering, statistics, engineering, systems engineering, mathematical sciences, applied mathematics, or Physics. * Hands-on and theoretical knowledge of various Machine Learning algorithms and tools. * Programming languages for software development such in Python. * Expertise with Time Series problems is a plus. * Experience with data visualization tool/software (e.g., matplotlib, seaborn, Tableau) * Experience operating in a Unix/Linux operating. * Database programming languages such as SQL. * Machine learning, neural network, and deep learning Work Conditions Environment: Hybrid (three days in office; two days remote) Duration: 12 weeks Schedule: Monday through Friday; 9AM -5PM Company Overview Since 1827, Norfolk Southern Corporation (NYSE: NSC) and its predecessor companies have safely moved the goods and materials that drive the U.S. economy.
