Position Summary
The Applications Technician position supports the flavor creations team by developing appropriate medium for the applications of flavor as well as other routine laboratory tasks. The Applications Technician supports the Sales team by preparing appropriate demo samples and responsible for following required regulations around safety, quality, and good laboratory practices.
Essential Job Functions Assist Applications Scientist with testing of flavor formulations in a wide variety of applications. This may include dairy, bakery, and beverage type products.
Develops prototypes to evaluate flavor profile and performance. Screens flavors in appropriate medium based on project objectives. Serves as a technical liaison with Operations on apps-related products (i.e.: cooked products and bases).
Assists with preparation of product demonstrations for sales calls, tradeshows, and other industry events. Selects appropriate products for customer projects based on desired flavor profile, regulatory requirements, and target costs. Assists with the maintenance of FlavorSum Access portfolio Applies food science and culinary knowledge in the development of prototypes. Operates various lab instruments and equipment to produce prototypes for screening and demos. Actively maintain flavor performance data for the flavor portfolio. Follows safety, quality, and GMP policies. Collaborates with multi-disciplinary team members. Ensures clean and tidy workspace. Performs all other duties as assigned. Minimum requirements
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Food Science or other applied science.
Work Experience:
2-5 years of experience in laboratory environment preferred. Prior flavor compounding experience is highly desired.
Industry Knowledge:
Knowledge of food industry, ingredient requirements, principles of food science and good laboratory practices preferred.

Strong math skills and the ability to convert between varying units of measure is required. Must be able to accurately weigh small quantities of ingredients. Must have acute sense of taste and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Must be able to lift up to 45 lbs. on a regular basis. Must not have food allergies that would interfere with the ability to consume a wide variety of customer products. This may include dairy, wheat, or any other common foods.
