This position serves our partners at Minnesota's largest state agency, the Department of Human Services (DHS). The MNIT DHS team supports complex and varied technical needs, including systems that provide health care coverage, deliver child protection and welfare services, and provide support for Minnesotans with special needs including mental illness, chemical dependencies, and physical or developmental disabilities.
As the Enterprise Integration/Solutions Architect , you proactively and holistically lead and support EA activities that guide the development and management of a portfolio of solutions such a s projects, systems (including applications, integration technologies and infrastructure solutions). These solutions enable the organization's future-state business capabilities and drive the organization's targeted business outcomes. Technologies include Java/JEE, enterprise service bus, enterprise integration technologies, infrastructure, cloud, mobile, AI, Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain, edge computing and immersive experiences technologies. The integration/solutions architect is responsible for designing, implementing, and governing integration and solution architectures that enable seamless interoperability across enterprise systems. This role ensures that technology solutions align with business objectives, architectural governance and standards, security standards, and compliance requirements while supporting scalability, performance, and modernization initiatives. They create deliverables for managing the organization's portfolio of "to be" and "as is" solutions including systems (applications, processes, information, and technology), shared infrastructure services, and shared application services and components to enable and drive targeted business outcomes.
This position advises MNIT Services, DHS/DCYF/HSDS, and MNsure management on architectural decisions and provides technical guidance to development staff. This position also performs a wide range of systems software support activities necessary to support the components of various related application and systems. This position requires the ability to work independently or with other team members to create and support program applications within an IT environment focused on integration patterns/technologies.
This position requires an employee to be onsite at 540 Cedar St., St. Paul, Minnesota at least 50% of the time, with some opportunity to perform work from a telework location.

Position requires a minimum of six (6) years of IT related experience in design, development, and implementation of enterprise applications.
Experience must include:
Securely designing and implementing large scale enterprise applications/systems with focus on integration or solution design, with cloud infrastructure and services experience, including design, build, and offering cloud-based solutions on cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, etc..
Applied expertise with architecting, solutioning, designing, and implementing large scale enterprise systems using Java/JEE, Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) based web services technologies (like SOAP, REST, etc.)
All aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and developing solution and technical architecture blueprints, diagrams, strategies, and roadmaps.
Applied expertise and strong knowledge of:
Integration technologies (e.g., IBM ACE, IBM BAW, Boomi, Mulesoft, Kafka)
Security Protocols (e.g., OAuth, SAML, SSL/TLS)
Knowledge of architect standards and conventions such as TOGAF, COBIT, Federal Enterprise Architecture, Zachman, etc.
Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively in a manner that facilitates mutual understanding.
Customer-focused approach grounded in active listening, empathy, and solution-oriented problem-solving to deliver positive user experiences.
Preferred Qualifications
Understanding and knowledge of system development life cycle (SDLC) methodologies (e.g., waterfall, agile, rapid prototyping, iterative, DevOps).
Proven ability to work with technology vendors in the delivery of capabilities and solutions.
Knowledge of development languages (e.g., Java, Python), database technologies (e.g., Oracle, MySQL, MongoDB), technology architecture components such as integration, network, security, and IT standards/conventions, and architect standards and conventions.
Strongly Preferred Qualifications
Seven (7) or more years' experience in a progressive Enterprise Systems Lead role, including designing solutions and establishing enterprise integration/solutions architecture standards and guidelines.
Experience working in the health and human services industry or business domain, and leading architecture governance teams and committees, including delivering presentations to senior-level executives and technical audiences.
Strong understanding of strategic and emerging technology trends, with demonstrated ability to apply existing and emerging technologies to evolving business and operating models.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOPs, and container orchestration (e.g., ARO, Kubernetes, Docker)
