Job Category Technology Compensation Overview The annual salary range for this position reflects a nationwide market range and varies based on factors like role complexity, location, and candidate experience among others. Employees can also earn performance-based cash incentives as part of our comprehensive compensation package. Salary Range $109,300.00 - $180,200.00 What Is the Opportunity? As an Entry-Level Data Engineer at Travelers, you'll play a crucial role in powering our Business Insurance CMP and Specialty pricing decisions through data. Collaborating with Actuarial and Data Science teams, you will help transform analytical concepts into reliable, production-ready data solutions that influence pricing strategies for our core insurance products. This is not just a maintenance position; you will be part of a team actively modernizing our data platforms, migrating from legacy systems to cloud-native solutions using AWS Glue, Step Functions, and PySpark. By integrating MLOps practices into our processes, you'll contribute to improving data reliability, model readiness, and scalability across our pricing platforms. The ideal candidate is eager to learn and grow as a data engineer, curious about the insurance industry, and excited about working in collaboration with various teams. Experienced engineers and leaders will support your development, allowing you to directly impact Travelers' pricing strategies in a dynamic market. What Will You Do? Data Engineering & Pipeline Development Develop and support reliable and scalable data pipelines for CMP and Specialty pricing use cases in production environments.
Execute data preparation tasks including exploration, cleansing, and transformation with an awareness of enterprise architecture and consumption patterns.
Convert actuarial and data science requirements into production-ready data solutions with guidance from senior engineers.
Assist with data quality controls, profiling, and monitoring throughout the model development lifecycle.
Model Implementation Support the implementation of CMP and Specialty pricing models in collaboration with Data Science and Actuarial teams.
Learn and apply MLOps practices throughout the model development and deployment cycle.
Domain Expertise & Collaboration Gradually build expertise in CMP and Specialty data to become a resource for benchmarks, modernization projects, and future enhancements.
Contribute to planning and execution of data engineering initiatives within CMP and Specialty.
Share insights and technical recommendations that support data implementation strategies.
Growth & Team Contribution Engage in code reviews and design discussions to enhance team standards and best practices.
Participate in efforts to modernize platforms by migrating legacy processes to AWS cloud architectures.
Utilize agile methodologies to effectively plan, prioritize, and deliver work across multiple projects.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have? A Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field or equivalent experience.
At least 6 years of relevant experience.
Proficiency with tools, techniques, and programming languages in cloud platforms and software engineering practices.
A consistent and dependable work ethic to meet commitments and participate in collaborative discussions.
In-depth domain knowledge and ability to understand technical concepts related to your work.
Strong problem-solving abilities, including the capability to debug and address issues in unfamiliar code or systems.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with team members and business partners.
Intermediate leadership skills with a proactive approach to personal and professional growth.
What is a Must-Have? A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related STEM field, or equivalent education/experience.
Two additional years of software/data engineering experience.
