Optical Engineer

XSYS Prepress (Ieper), a division of XSYS Global, is a recognized leader in the design and production of Computer-to-Plate machines for the printing industry. For packaging, XSYS offers advanced digital sheet production lines known as ThermoFlexX and Catena.

• Develop advanced optical systems for printing machines, in consultation with project leaders, product managers, and the R&D team. Designs are created in Zemax and transferred to SolidWorks in collaboration with a CAD designer
• Work with optical components such as lenses, mirrors, high/low-power fiber lasers, and LEDs. Machines require mechanical precision at the (sub)micrometer scale, requiring close collaboration with mechanics, electronics, and firmware teams
• Assemble optical test setups, prototypes, and subassemblies, transferring know-how to production and service teams
• Source specialized optical components in coordination with the purchasing department
• Continuously improve optical performance based on feedback from service and production teams
• Report directly to the R&D Director

• Master's degree (or equivalent experience) in optics, photonics, or applied physics
• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience
• Strong understanding of optical principles; experience with Zemax is essential
• Programming skills (e.g., Matlab) are a plus
• Independent, structured, hands-on and passionate about technology
• Creative problem-solving and out-of-the-box thinking, combined with a collaborative mindset across R&D disciplines (mechanics, electronics, and software)
• Fluent in English; knowledge of Dutch is an advantage
