This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, MI or Milford, MI three times per week, at minimum or other frequency dictated by the business.The Role:To achieve our vision of a world with Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions and Zero Congestion, GM Mechatronics Hardware platform is evolving to provide robust service to our customers.We are seeking a highly experienced Technical Specialist in Transmission Control Module (TCM) hardware and electrical design to serve as the global subject-matter expert for transmission, powertrain, and engine controllers. This individual will shape the future of our electronic control module (ECM/TCM/PCM) hardware strategy, lead advanced development, and ensure robust, high-quality controller designs that meet global requirements.In this role, you will be responsible to develop and/or improve the hardware development process with the center of expertise. You will work with cross-functional teams (Semiconductor, DREs, GM software, PCB layout, Mechanical Engineering, Supplier, Validation) to deliver quality product on time.You'll effectively achieve program milestones by thorough and effective program management. You will coach and lead a team of electrical hardware designers.I am seeking a high performing independent engineer to develop winning execution strategies, oversee solutions, resolve issues, and deliver continuous improvement for propulsion controllers considering quality, cost, and timing.What You'll Do:Responsible for overseeing and guiding a team of electrical hardware designers. This involves providing technical direction, assigning tasks, and ensuring the team's productivity and efficiency.Work closely with other teams, such as software engineers, mechanical engineers, and manufacturing teams, to ensure seamless integration of electrical hardware designs into the overall product.Lead embedded designs for advanced module architectures.Lead new IC design/development strategic to advanced in-vehicle architecturesLead/oversee electrical schematic, PCB layout, high‑current design, EMI/EMC robustness, thermal design, and packaging Assess the feasibility of proposed electrical hardware designs, considering factors such as cost, performance, reliability, and manufacturability.Support next generation designs in digital/analog hardware including CAN/CAN-FD, LIN, Ethernet, diagnostics (UDS/OBD), engine and transmission controls, mixed-signal circuits, power stages, solenoid drivers, sensor interfaces, and analog front endsPerform/Review/approve electrical worst-case analysisApprove PCB designs and ensure DFM/DFA/DFRRepresent the GM HW team as design expert in the core technologies developed among the teamOptimize five-point parametric tests and finalize end of line production testsLead the process as a build-to-print engineer that also acts as a liaison with the contract houseApply cost effective solutions with improved performance designLead product development as part of a multi hub engineering organizationRefine/optimize global controller requirementsMaintain Hardware Design deliverables e.g., Block Diagram, Schematics, PCB layout, etc…Lead Peer Reviews and identify issues (e.g. integration, interfaces, systemic issues)Support model-based development and HIL/SIL/MIL validationAlign hardware capabilities with transmission/engine control strategiesSupport Engineering Change Request (ECR)Support Assembly Plant issue resolutionProvide technical leadership for troubleshooting activities to support PRTS Issue Resolution
Drive read-across activities from recalls and investigations and support Product Investigations (SFI Process)Lead Cost ReductionMentor DRE’s and other support personnelProvides guidance and consultation to Design Release Engineers (DREs) in product development team meetingCreate and maintain Best PracticesDemonstrated ability to work cross-functionally within propulsion teams and across other SMTs.Collaborate and strategize with cross-functional teamsEnsure all vehicle Program Imperatives (i.e., piece cost, investment, mass, base engineering content & IPTV) involving these components are met.Work with DRE/Validation group to setup a plan for a component validation plan (includes component software verification) and ensure that the plan is executed in time to meet program imperatives.Lead DV/PV testing, EMI/EMC testing, and durability validationParticipate/lead in Formal Design, Peer and Quality Valve reviews as required by the Vehicle Development Process (VDP).Support ISO 26262 hardware safety analysisDevelop/Review/Approve all In-process Electrical test plans.Develop sourcing strategies and support supplier qualificationSupport vehicle integration activity for pre-production and production vehiclesLead/participate in issue resolution for design and development issues, ECU warranty analysis, parts restriction and report updates as required to Engineering and Vehicle Team leadershipLead/support DFMEA/PFMEAWhat You'll Need:Bachelor of Science in Engineering Required. Masters degree preferredProfessional experience creating digital/analog HW interfaces including schematic creation and/or PCB layout & supportive documentationMinimum 10+ years working experience in automotive hardware electronics designExperience in design & analysis tools like Mentor Graphics (schematic & layout) MathCad, PSpice & SaberIn-depth knowledge of microprocessor controllers, mixed-signal design, power drivers, serial networks, EMI/EMC, embedded fundamentals, validationIn-depth knowledge of requirements engineering process (FMEA, Preliminary Hazard Analyses)In-depth knowledge of verification and validation processesIn-depth knowledge of embedded software development, testing and associated toolsUnderstanding of hardware design and failure modeUnderstanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanismsThorough knowledge of design development and test engineering, manufacturing and assembly operations, engineering processes and procedures.Highly developed oral and written communications skillsDemonstrated ability to work cross-functionally within Electrical and across other SMTs.Demonstrated problem solving ability.High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate employees, and elicit work outputVery high level of analytical problem-solving skills where problems are very unusual and extremely difficult.Preferred QualificationsPrevious industry experience with propulsion design (transmission)GM DOES NOT PROVIDE IMMIGRATION-RELATED SPONSORSHIP FOR THIS ROLE.
