Nursing degree, active registered nurse (RN) license and minimum 1+ years Stepdown RN experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Provide expert nursing care in a progressive care unit focused on adult patients with complex cardiac and medical needs. This role involves working in a dynamic acute inpatient environment where advanced monitoring and specialized interventions are essential for patient outcomes. The position is a contract opportunity located in Plattsburgh, NY, within a Level 2 Trauma facility offering a 341-bed progressive care setting recognized for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. Key Responsibilities: Deliver comprehensive nursing care to adult patients with diagnoses including Acute Coronary Syndrome, heart failure, post-PTCA/stent care, drug toxicity, and complex cardiac rhythms Manage advanced vascular access, titrate multiple cardiac and vasoactive drips, and monitor invasive telemetry systems Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including respiratory therapy and anesthesia support (available 24/7) to optimize patient care Perform specialty procedures such as starting IVs, venipuncture, EKGs, and managing insulin and cardiac drips under established protocols Participate in the Resource Float team as needed to support appropriate units within the facility Maintain accurate electronic medical records using EPIC within a fast-paced environment Qualifications and Experience: Registered Nurse (RN) with a minimum of 1 year clinical experience in progressive care or stepdown nursing Current BLS and ACLS certifications required Experience with telemetry monitoring and management of cardiac patients preferred Ability to float within the facility to related units when necessary Strong clinical judgment and effective communication skills Schedule and Environment: 12-hour shifts with day (7a-7p) and night rotations; schedule to be posted with potential for weekends and holidays Nurse-to-patient ratio approximately 1:3; supported by a team including CNAs and telemetry technicians Dress code: navy blue or white scrubs, closed-toe nonskid shoes, minimal jewelry, professional grooming Location Highlights:Plattsburgh, NY, offers a community-oriented lifestyle with access to beautiful natural surroundings including Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains.
