Job Description Join our innovative team at General Motors as a Senior Data Engineer focusing on telematics systems. This hybrid role requires the successful candidate to report to our offices in Austin, TX or Warren, MI at least three times a week. Your expertise will play a pivotal role in enhancing safety, security, and customer experience through our software-defined vehicle strategy. The Role You will be instrumental in developing and maintaining a scalable data platform tasked with processing telematics data from millions of vehicles worldwide. Your work will lead to significant improvements in operational efficiency and vehicle performance. In this high-visibility position, you will support hundreds of internal analytics users and contribute to an exceptional experience for our retail and fleet customers. What You'll Do Develop a scalable data platform to handle increasing data volume and complexity.
Create and maintain data pipelines for ingesting, processing, and curating large volumes of data using technologies such as Spark, Kafka, Azure Data Lake Storage, or similar tools.
Support infrastructure for optimized data ingestion, transformation, and storage.
Collaborate with data scientists to advance machine learning initiatives.
Design and implement data observability, governance, and quality checks.
Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering their professional growth.
Simplify complex processes and ensure thorough documentation of your work.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
5+ years of data engineering experience, proficient in Python or Scala, SQL, and both relational and non-relational databases.
3+ years of experience with large-scale data processing using Spark and container orchestration technologies like Kubernetes.
Expertise in performance tuning strategies including partitioning, clustering, and caching.
Strong background in infrastructure as code (IaC) and CI/CD practices.
Proven experience in cloud environments, preferably Azure.
Solid knowledge of data architecture, data governance, and observability.
Experience in designing schemas and establishing data contracts.
Excellent teamwork and leadership skills for effective collaboration.
What Can Give You a Competitive Advantage (Preferred Qualifications) Master's degree in a relevant field.
Experience with various file formats including audio and video.
Familiarity with tools like Databricks or Snowflake.
General Motors is dedicated to offering relocation benefits for eligible candidates. Compensation: The expected base compensation for this role is: $134,000 - $219,000, based on relevant factors.
Bonus potential is available depending on company and individual performance.
