Provide direct nursing care to the residents. Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician and approved by the state board. Assist supervisors in the care and management of the unit. Such care must be in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility, and as may be required by the DON, Supervisor, or Charge Nurse to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.

Responsibilities:
- Prepare and administer medications and treatments except controlled medications, oxygen, injections, intravenously, parenteral or through any jejunostomy, gastrostomy, nasogastric or oral gastric tube, no initial dose or PRN medication as ordered by the physician and in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Administrator prescription and OTC medications as approved only at the delegation of the registered nurse
- Verify the identity of the resident before administering the medication/treatment.
- Review medication records for completeness of information, accuracy in the transcription of the physician's order, and adherence to stop order policies.
- Follow the rights of medication administration and infection prevention standards
- Verify physician orders prior to medication administration and clarify discrepancies with the RN Supervisor.
- Measure, prepare, and administer medications accurately and safely.
- Observe residents for side effects, adverse reactions, or medication errors, and report concerns immediately to the RN Supervisor.
- Ensure medications are stored, handled, and disposed of in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the clinical record, administration of medication or refusals by patient
- Report all discrepancies noted concerning physician orders, diet change, charting error, etc., to the RN supervisor.
- Give/receive the nursing report upon reporting in and ending shift duty hours.
- Notify the RN Supervisor when the resident is involved in an accident/incident or change in condition.
- Review the residents’ chart for specific treatments, medication orders, diets, etc., as necessary.
- Take and record vital signs (T, P, R, BP, FSBS) etc., as necessary.
Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age, or older
- High school diploma or GED required
- Completion of a Michigan Board of Nursing approved Medication Aide training program
- Current Michigan Certified/State Tested Nurse Assistant certification
- Must possess a state-certified medication aide certification in the state of Michigan.
- Current CPR certification or CPR certification within 90 days of employment.
